They're not touchers. Neither of them ever have been or likely ever will be. That makes it all the more important, really.
There's a slight clack of the younger man's tongue for warning before his arms pull around the King from behind. Settling his cheek against the other man's shoulder is comfortable, makes it easy to sigh a completely contented breath as he squeezes briefly tight.
There's a moment of surprise before he chuckles, leaning back against the younger man, closing his eyes and nuzzling his cheek, just for a moment.
"Hey," he says softly, squeezing Cadogan's arms gently. Nothing more needs to be said, really. Because his best friend wants to hug him, and that is perfectly sufficient.
Nothing more that could be said, surely. There isn't a real rhyme or reason to this urge to thank Silas for everything, or for it to take the form of this tight embrace.
Just for him to duck his head down and press against the older man's neck a moment, breathe together calmly.

She'll understand, someday, how much it broke Eileen's heart to not be able to always be there, to not spend every single evening with her child. She'll understand, someday, how hard both her parents worked to be by her side as often as they could be.
For now, Ariel isn't completely up on knowing all that. She just knows, deeply and in her soul, that her mother and father love her just as much as she loves them.
She also knows how to make pasta. So when Eileen has to go back to the office after bringing her home from school, the girl will set to making her parents pasta for dinner. Possibly even heat up jarred sauce, if she can find a second pot. Did she do good?
Her mother and father love her more than she can possibly imagine loving them, which is why Pierre is justifiably very, very concerned when he walks into the house to find pasta and sauce on burners on the stove.
He's sweeping her away, away from the stove and out of the reach of potentially horrible fiery hurts. Because his princess is not going to get burned or scorched or be in any way uncomfortable. Ever.
"Ariel, what are you doing? You could have hurt yourself, and there's no one here to know."
Which is not her fault, admittedly, but he's still allowed to be irritated over it. Where is that goddamned nanny?
Fired, clearly. But that's secondary, surely, to the confusion and nervousness in Ariel's eyes as she clings instinctively.
"'s dinner time. You and Mommy need to eat." But that's clearly not the important thing here. What's important is the immediate follow-up. "I'm s-sorry. I wanted t-to help, Daddy."
There were so few ways she could, and here she'd tried wrong.

It hadn't been easy. It had been a lot of struggling against her husband--and together with her husband. It had been sharp ups and downs. It had been a lot of love. It had been a lot of living and loving in defiance of the rest of the world.
And at the end of the day, Ariel was a beautiful warrior princess, and Armel was a strong powerful god.
There's always been a fierce quality to Eileen's love for her children. It's sharp in her smile today as she smooths down her son's hair. "Do you know how proud I am of you, Armel?"
There are few things in life that Armel has ever wanted as much as he wants his mother's pride and his father's approval. But hearing it while she adjusts his hair for him, smoothing his lapels, makes him smile. He bends to kiss her cheek affectionately.
"I'm glad to know that, mom. Thank you." And now he just has to make his way through this presentation, and then all will be fine. They'll stand strong together, with his mother on one side and his sister on the other with his father at his mother's side, and they will make it through this together.
That's her good boy. Sharp, smart, and respectful to his mother. She's raised a son it's easy to be genuinely proud of with every fiber of her being.
"I'm sure, baby." She can't stifle the tiniest bit of a sigh as she continues to smooth his hair. "It won't take long. Promise. And when it's done, we'll do something better."
Have a proper little birthday for him. Just their actual little family, not the cousins she barely knew and their 'proper' families. Something actually fun, to actually celebrate her baby boy turning into a man.

Thank you, Silas. For so many things.
