[[ooc: Well, he technically already had a turn, so Bee can go. c: ]]

[Finding her had been the easy part and even that had taken much longer than they'd liked. The Titans East was too full of leaders to fall apart when the one with actual leader status got kidnapped but without Bumblebee keeping them in line, things were definitely more chaotic. Aqualad's usual cool composure was lost in his arguments with Speedy over what to do and the twins had been nearly inconsolable with worry, dashing from place to place with no real goal ( ... )

[It'd been long enough that she couldn't remember exactly how long it'd been. The days had blurred together in a haze of pain and confusion, so much so that when she first stirred out of the state of unconsciousness she'd previously been in before he called her name, she thought it must have been a dream.

But there he is, standing, very real before her, and in spite of the utter agony she's in, in spite of the split lip and the bruises marring her face and torso and the near-shredded condition of her wings (which she definitely does not want to think about) she somehow manages a sharp smile that's a faint echo of her typical triumphant grin.]

F'king... hell, Speedo. Wha'... t--took you guys s--so long?

[Her voice is raspy, either from lack of use or far too much screaming, it's hard to tell, and she's just about lost feeling in her extremities due to the tightness of the bonds. But damn if it doesn't make her feel a hell of a lot better to see him, because that means that the cavalry's finally come.]W--was beginnin' t'think y'didn ( ... )

Well, you know me, gotta make sure the hair looks perfect before I can step outta my room.

[The banter comes surprisingly easily, even though his grin is feeble at best. He sets to work unlocking the restraints with one hand, wrapping the other arm around her waist to support her as they come undone. As much as she'll probably protest, he's pretty damn sure she can't walk on her own.]

God, Bee, you look like hell.

[He tries to keep his eyes off her wings (Can those be fixed? Is she ever going to be able to fly again?), tries to focus on getting her out of there and back to safety, back home.

Roy curses himself a million times over for not finding her sooner, but pushes as much of the guilt aside as he can. That has to wait.]

So are we even now?

Good t'know where I stand in your priorities, then.

[Everything's chaotic and wrong and hurts and when things are like that, it's easier to focus on the constants. And their banter? Definitely constant, definitely the only thing keeping her from breaking completely (because she's not broken, not yet, and damn anyone who says she is) and even if she can't stand properly, let alone walk, (or fly, but don't think about that) she can still joke with him. She's capable of that much.]

Well... whaddya expect? Wasn' like I was havin' some goddamned tea party with 'em or something.

[She tries not to lean on him too much, but it's a waste of energy she doesn't have, so eventually she just lets herself be more or less carried out. God, she's so tired.]

Even? Nah... y'owe me way too much for that. Bu' you're getting there.

[Keep joking, keep teasing, keep (pretending) everything's Just Fine and everything (will be) is. Is. She's Fine, she's Fine.

She's really Not Fine.]

You're my favorite chick that dresses up like a bug, if that makes you feel any better.

[Roy at least has the courtesy to not mention that he's pretty much carrying her. She's not heavy, even less so now-- how long has it been since she's eaten? That thought makes him hurry, as much as he can without jarring her injuries.

The T-jet's waiting for them, hidden in the forest behind the building she was trapped in the basement of. If he listens closely, he can hear the battle raging on the other side of it, can hear the crashing of water and rush of wind that he's come to associate with his teammates.]

What if I make you ribs and let you pick the movie tonight? How many points would that get me?

[He focuses on keeping her talking, keeping her focused on something other than the pain and the movement. They're almost out of the building now, and from there it's about two hundred feet to the Jet, and then they're homefree, then they can get the fuck out of there because the twins are running home and Aqualad's taking the ocean express or ( ... )

[It makes her laugh just a little, but it cuts off abruptly because ow, ribs (when did that happen?) She can't remember much of anything of the past few days (weeks?) at all.]

Probably the only chick y'know that dresses like a bug.

[Except it's not dress up because the wings are real (and God do they hurt so bad) but she can't think about that now because she's F-I-N-E fine.

The sight of the jet and the barely audible sounds of her teammates' fighting bring a wave of relief crashing down on her as she realizes, really realizes that the worst is over and maybe she really can be okay now and that might have her losing what little willpower she had left in keeping herself relatively upright. So you'd better have a good grip, Speedy, because she's slumping forward a little more now.]

...Might earn you a few. Depends on the quality of the ribs.

[Keep breathing, breathing is good, keep talking and keep up the banter and don't think. That's what she keeps reminding herself as they move towards the Jet.]

Just 'cause you're my favorite by default doesn't make you any less my favorite.

[He readily compensates for her draining energy, archer upper body strength serving him well in keeping her upright. A little shifting and she's riding piggyback, which is something he really should have done earlier and it makes the last stretch that much easier, but he'd wanted to spare her pride for as long as he could. He owed her that much.]

You know my ribs are the best quality there is, come on now. [All joking ceases for a moment as he slides her into the passenger's seat of the section they had installed specifically for solo flights. It's five minutes back to the Tower if he floors it and every second is another one Karen has to be in this much pain. Roy fastens her seatbelt before she can move to do it herself and with a speed that was impressive for a non-meta, they were out of there.]

Lucky me.

[Not so lucky when he shifts her onto his back, which earns a quiet protest but not much else. She really doesn't have the strength to manage it.]

Debatable. Sparky can make a pretty mean bunch, too, after all.

[It's quiet for the time when he has to shift her into position in the Jet, because even though they designed the seats so that her wings wouldn't have any issues, they're still in contact with a lot of the chair and the causes the nerve cells to be screaming at her in a way that makes it very difficult to keep her mind off that particular injury. So it takes her a few moments to work out another point of conversation.]

Y'guys manage not t'blow up the Tower while I was... away?

[Speedy is white-knuckled on the controls the whole ride back, eyes constantly darting back and forth between her and the sky ahead of them. It doesn't require as much attention as driving, not with the technology they use, but getting them home as fast as possible means paying attention to what he's doing.]

Just your room. The rest of the Tower's fine.

[He manages a quirk of the lips resembling a smirk. He doesn't think he's ever been this worried about anyone before. The truth was that none of them had ever dared to enter her room, either before or after her kidnapping.]

[She's managing not to grimace completely, the pain she's in expressed by her lips tightening into a thin line but very little else.

They twitch into the ghost of a smile at his words.] S'pose I should be grateful y'left something standing.

You didn't need a bed or a dresser anyway, right? [Finally, finally they reach the tower and Roy's fingers ache a little when he releases the controls, but he ignores it and rushes to Bee's side of the jet, rushing to unbuckle her.]

Hold still or I'll drop you. [Sliding a hand under her knees and lower back, he lifts her up bridal style, mindful of the wings. It's all he can do to remind himself not to run as he carries her to the medical bay.]

Oh, I need one. I'll just take yours.

[She can't help the hiss of pain when he lifts her, but she manages to keep herself more or less still as they move towards the medical bay. It takes all the effort she has to manage the joke.] Christ, Speedo, 'm not a princess. No need to carry me like one.

I thought you said you'd never step into my "slime pit" of a room again.

[He chuckles when she says she's not a princess. If they're her boys, she's definitely their princess.] Queen probably suits you better, huh?

Well, considerin' you're probably t'blame for the loss of my pristine one, I'm gonna have to.

[And that earns a genuine grin out of her for the first time since her rescue.] Damned straight it does.
