But she can't.
Just as she can't hug him like a friend, or a comrade, or someone who fucking misses her world and can't remember the last time she saw it in one piece. So this is an embrace only in the way her arms slink around him and how her cheek presses to his chest, because she's still so short next to him. Everything else is dug-in nails and stinging skin.]

Joyd starts at the contact at first, more from "where did you come from?" than sensing what she is. So he's confused and starting to try and phase her.] Look, girl. I don't do hu--ngk!
[His hands grip at her shoulders, trying to push her away once he finds he can't phase away. Joyd can feel the Innocence burning against him and he hisses, voice coming out strained.] Let. Go.

She can hear that. Hear his Innocence reaching out for her, and it cuts a hole in her chest like he honestly still could phase her. She grits her teeth and stifles a weak sound; I can't. Don't you understand? I'm not Allen, I can't- and tightens her arms around him.] No.
[If he sounds strained, then she doesn't want to know what her voice sounds like. And she's stronger now, Joyd, did you notice? Even beneath a Noah's grip, she barely falters. He can't hurt her the way she can him.
(Physically, at least.)]

Joyd hisses again and digs his own nails into her shoulders. He never noticed his own Lenalee's hugs, or should he say Lavi's, but he knows already that she's not normal. And his mind is going to Apocryphos.]
You're permanently damaging Booky's body, you know. [Coating his arms with Dark Matter now and it eases the pain a little.] Going to make him crippled.

an enemy.
As his fingers dig in, she makes a cracked noise and rolls her shoulders. Stop that. Stop it. She would tighten further still, if not for what he says, sending a chill down her spine and back up again. Her grip falters, then abruptly loosens off as the Dark Matter slips up his arms, stinging her right back. She doesn't let go, but she isn't squeezing anymore, either.] I won't hurt him!
[God, she's had to kill a friend once already, she can't bear to have to hurt Lavi, too.]

Joyd sucks in a breath of needed air, keeping the material on his arms, wondering if he can spread it over his entire body.
But her words...they strike an idea into his head.] So you say.

Lavi cries out in pain, making a choked noise since he's unprepared for what Joyd was facing. All he knew was that Lenalee was here and that she was somehow hurting Joyd. Lavi's head hangs over her shoulder.]
Le-Lenalee, ple-please...!

can't let him...
god. why.] Lavi!
[Wrenching away as if burned, only to grab up the front of his shirt again as if afraid of letting the Noah slip away if she doesn't. She can't breathe like this.] Don't run, you bastard. You can't do this. It isn't fair, it isn't-

Lavi's knees give as soon as she lets go and he sits back on his feet, arms gripped by his hands and ignoring Lenalee's hands on his shirt. Instead he's gasping from the pain even as the Noah genes inside him race to fix the damage. It's not going to work well what with it being Innocence burns and with his shirt collar pulled away as it is, Lenalee will see the exorcism marks on his chest made from Allen's sword. Joyd will come back, eventually.]
Wh-why does it hurt, Lenalee?

[And then she sees the scar and there's no way she can keep it together. She tries to gather him up in a proper hug, one of those motherly, protective ones she used to be able to give, but she's so terrified of burning him that she can't. His pained gasps grab at the pieces of her that remembers what it was like to be human (normal, alive) and wrench.]
I didn't- [Her voice cracks; she releases him and stumbles back. As if it physically pains her (it does):] Because you're a Noah.

Usually cloth is enough to keep Innocence from harming him, it's how he's gotten away with using his hammer all this time. But the Innocence of an Apocryphos is much stronger than a normal weapon. Unknowing of what she is Lavi still reaches back out for her.
Only his expression falls as does his hand as she calls him that and he bows his head, hands balled into fists.] I'm not a Noah! I don't want him in my head! I don't!
