#1 -- Sailing on Morgan's boatimmortal_pirateSeptember 27 2012, 02:48:19 UTC
"Maria, come on, relax," he'd have offered to carry her bag if he didn't think she would threaten to break his hand. He lead her down the dock to his sailboat. His pride and joy. "Here we are." She sat at her mooring gleaming and white in the sun.
That made him stop in his tracks. It prickled. He caught himself before he started bitching about the bloody Disney pirate movies. Morgan took a deep breath.
"It's been two hundred years since I set foot on a pirate ship. Besides, it's impossible to sail one of those three masted ships single handed." He stepped aboard the ship and offered Hill his hand.
Struck a nerve, had she? Hill chalked it up to just being part of her abrasive charm. Her gut instinct was to help herself aboard the ship, but she decided to at least try to relax and be civil.
It didn't surprise her that Flint's hand was rough and callused. Hers weren't exactly soft and dainty, either. Hill had 'man hands'. There was no two ways about it. She had seen action, handled munitions and explosives, and rock climbing was her favorite hobby. So naturally, her own hands reflected that.
"I wouldn't know one ship from another, but if someone wants to know the difference between an M16 and an M40, I'm your girl."
"Well, luckily I know about boats," Morgan said. "Welcome aboard Foxfire," he said proudly. It wasn't her abrasive charm. Morgan actually quite liked that Maria was challenging. "Let me show you around."
Morgan led her below the stairs opened onto the main salon. "This is the salon." He showed her the radio, GPS and other safety equipment. "The galley is here," it was a small but well equipped kitchen area.
Firefox looked luxurious with her dark wood, and fine galley. Morgan had her built in 1960 and he'd recently refurbished her, doing most of the work himself. He showed her past the galley forward to the crew quarters. Most of the rooms had two bunks and their own head. "You can bunk in any of these you like."
"And you're not going to try to change my mind if I decide to bunk down here?" Hill had fully expected him to almost insist she share his quarters. She just wasn't sure if she was supposed to be disappointed or not.
"I wouldn't object if you changed your mind and wanted to share my quarters, but no, I'm not going to try to talk you into it," he said with a chuckle. "I thought you might like a space of your own. If you do change your mind, my cabin is back the other way past the engine room." He showed his cabin to her. "Or you need anything."
Setting her SHIELD-issued duffel on the opposite bunk, Hill moved to follow him towards the aft of the boat. She had to admit that she liked the view of his backside.
"I can see why this is your home away from home. I'm actually kinda jealous."
"Actually, this is my home. The loft is my second home. I lived on the ship for two years sailing around the South Seas," he was obviously proud of his ship. "I had her built in 1960. I just refurbished the interior in the last year."
"Again, I'm impressed. Maybe I should get you to upgrade the Helicarrier's interior." Did the world just tilt on its axis? Had Hill actually relaxed enough to make a joke? Would wonders never cease.

"This?" An eyebrow raised. "I was expecting something a bit more... Pirates of the Caribbean."

Meaning that the cold steel and utilitarian non-decorating aboard her ship weren't exactly homey.
