Theta did not look overly thrilled to answer that question. A cloud of gold sparkles fell from his lips as he spoke.
"I'm thinking that one should never tell a witch or any woman that vertical strips make them look twenty pounds heavier than they are. Good thing I didn't bring up that she looked as if she had applied her makeup with colour-blind shotgun. I'm also considering whether or not partioning each invterval of A and B into a finite family of non-overlapping subintervals with each subinterval closed at the left end and open at the right end with a then the infinite family of subrectangles labeled C is a partition... if that might solve my problem if I continue it on to a Riemann sum with a Cartesian product. There's also the thought of maybe, just maybe I should take my soul sucking dolly to a children's hospital to see what happens. Lastly, I'm wondering why it is that a moose's legs go back and forth to kick both ways yet a horse's doesn't. Seems like a design flaw to me. You also have wonderful breasts for a Companion

River manages to look poised through all of that, fighting back some confusion at the technobabble, and resisting the urge to laugh when he launches into the bit about donkeys.
His final comment, however, has her chuckling merrily. "I'm glad they're appreciated. And sorry about your witch. Not that this isn't tremendously amusing to me. What else do you think of me?"
Yes, okay, no one ever said River Song wasn't a little vain. And anyway, she was curious. Theta was a curious creature and to get inside his head for even a minute-while probably an incredibly dangerous endeavor-was an opportunity River couldn't pass down.
"I should like you to know that being forced to tell the truth in no way prohibits the use of my Disruptor or somehow interferes with my aim."
Theta waved a hand in annoyance as if he would be able to swat away all the tiny sparks that accompanied his words. It didn't work. They started when he spoke and fell until he stopped.
"I think you're a damaged person, and that makes you dangerous. Damaged people know how and that they can survive. I'm also sure you know the Doctor, but I don't know how, and they won't tell me. I've never met another you but all of them from Ten on seem to know your name. This leads me to the consideration that you're a singularity and the universe hates such a thing."
His nose wrinkled up, teeth exposed in a silent snarl as he fought the spell and lost. Again.
"I think your death would hurt Eleven more than Ten which benefits me if it could be horrific enough. Anger makes him stupid, but only for a precious few seconds before that cold fury steps in. It would take planning, doing things delicately. I

It really shouldn't surprise her that Theta has a plan for her death. Not after she'd seen the ghosts that haunted her TARDIS. There was a reason that despite her easy words, she was always on guard around him. The banter was one thing, but River always had an eye on him. His words are interesting.
'Bearable' coming from Theta seems like almost a compliment. She'd also assumed he knew more about her than he actually did. But she supposed one day he would find out how she knew the Doctor, what her role was in the grand scheme of things. His killer, his wife. She wondered what Theta would think of that.
But, alas-spoilers.
"You will, no doubt."
River waves some of the gold flakes out of her own face where they'd hung in the air after Theta had finished talking, sneezing a few she must have inhaled out as well.
"It's nothing personal. I think of how everyone's death benefits me. Part of the perils of being immortal."
Trying to stop himself wasn't helping. All he could do was look angry and snarl. If in doubt, growl about it.
"I will, yes. I always do. I'm better than the Doctor, especially Eleven. He can strut and preen all he wants, but in the end, he's a walking shadow, a poor player. And he knows it."
Oh. Huh. "A spell? So some sort of a...psychic imperative I s'pose?" She frowns at that. She'll have to check her questions then."Well come on then, let's go find her and reverse it. You know where she went, yeah?"
Theta looked perfectly miserable or as miserable as one could when plotting bloody murder. It wasn't a pretty mix. Lowering his hands slowly, one mad half-breed's glare fixed on her.
"I'll remind you that my having to tell the truth does not interfere with my ability to aim my Disruptor. At least that Scotsman isn't with you."
Now that would have been a nightmare. Rose probably wouldn't have approved of barehanded strangling.
"Erm, well. No. She cackled and snapped her fingers."
She points at him. "No need for threats, Theta, I'd never ask you questions when I knew you couldn't lie." She quirks a small smile. "Except maybe 'what's your favorite color'."
No, she wouldn't approve of Theta strangling her companion. That would be unpleasant. She nods. "Right then, where was she coming from? Maybe we can catch her doing...whatever witches do."
Again, his hands clapped over his mouth with a wide eyed glare at Rose. There would be retributions, missy. Many retributions! Maybe ones that were Scottish shaped.
"I don't know! She was walking by and asked how she looked, and I told her. She was fat, ugly and had a wart right between her eyes. Do you have any idea how hard it was not to stare? I should have gotten some leeway for that."
Theta plunked down with all the beauty of a caribou with a hangover and engaged in a sulk that would have made the Doctor proud.
Her smile is almost apologetic. Honest, she won't intentionally ask prying questions!
"Wait...so you told the truth and she punished you by making you tell the truth? That doesn't make sense." She crosses her arms and frowns. "Did she say anything else? Maybe time limits or...phrasing tricks?"

Here, Rose, have a Tennish headscratch.
