Hope this is ok withoutordersJuly 23 2012, 00:02:01 UTC
[He often found it strange that he'd worked his way up to such a high position in this family without actually being related to anybody...and quite a few members liked to remind him of that as often as they possibly could. But he'd worked for them since he was 10 and he knew how to use a gun. Between that and actually having a mind for strategy (which was more than could be said for some of the other capos) he'd eventually just sort of moved up. He followed orders well and despite Michael's underboss Zachariah hating his guts, the don himself always seemed to have a soft spot for him.
That didn't make meetings with him any less stressful. Dean dragged himself up the stairs to his massive apartment, trying not to think about his next job as he walked I'm the door. That was for outside, he needed to learn to let work to. He shrugged off his coat and collapsed onto the couch, desperately needed a beer but too tired to move]
[It was no secret that Dean Winchester happened to be Michaels favorite capo. In fact Castiel was pretty sure that his older brother had romantic plans for the oldest Winchester, which made Castiel and Dean's relationship all the more difficult.
They didn't mean for it to happen, really. Castiel was considered below Dean for the first place. He was beneath the rule of a different capo entirely, yet somehow he and Dean just-... drifted together. It was inevitable, their conversations lead to eventual romance and the two would be hiding themselves from everyone in the family. Not only was it two men together but it was Michaels favorite brother and his favorite capo that Castiel was pretty sure Michael wanted to bed himself

Dean leaned back in his seat, looking behind him to see Cas emerging from the bathroom. "Glad to see your day was better than mine.". He moved over on the couch so the other man would have room. It was always nice to be in their apartment, where they didn't have to hide or over think his actions. Where he could just relax with his boyfriend, or roommate as everyone thought. And Michael was always do grateful to Dean for taking in his little brother.
"You brother says hi, asks why you haven't called in the past week.".
Castiel muttered, making his way over to the couch before taking a seat down beside his lover. He let the towel rest over his shoulders, small droplets of water falling from his hair and rolling down his flesh. Their apartment was their own little hide away. They didn't have to enforce rank here. Dean wasn't above Cas, they didn't have to hide. It was wonderful. A safe haven in the midst of such chaos.
"I had to kill someones father today. That is never simple."
When Dean mentioned Michael the man looked up, frowning through his blue eyes. "I'll have to call Michael and let him know how busy I have been. He didn't give you a hard time, did he?"
Dean wrapped an arm around Cas, pulling him close as he kicked off his shoes and put his feet up on the coffee table. Dean always found the way Cas acted after a kill fascinating. The man was good at what he did, and followed nearly every order without question, but seem to almost feel bad after. It wasn't remorse, it was more like acknowledgment that somebody had just died. Dean found it almost admirable, if a little weird.
"Not directly no, but with the jobs he's setting me up with I think he's testing me...again.". And it wouldn't be the last time. It seemed every so often Dean had to prove himself, probably less for Michael and more for the rest of the family.
Castiel allowed himself to be pulled in close to Deans body. He actually liked this, he felt safe in the other mans arms as foolish as that may sound. Castiel was born and raised to work in the family, his first kill was in the tender age of twelve. Yet he was very different from his brothers and sisters. For one he always remembered the names of those he had to kill. For another he fell in love with the off limits protege of his older brother Michael.
Dangerous times were had by all.
"I am certain Zacharia was demanding it." Castiel said softly, tucking his head under Deans chin as he closed his eyes. "My cousin can be very demanding and difficult when he wants to be."
"Yeah? Then he must always wanna be.". He ran his fingers through Cas's wet hair, not caring about the water that was getting on his nice button up shirt. He hated dressing nice, but it was the right thing to do when you met with Michael. Still, there was something satisfying about watching the cleanly pressed shirt get wrecked now.
"They want me to kill a girl, barely out of high school. Apperantly she saw something she shouldn't have and we gotta shut her up...or I do. Michael was pretty specific, I'm the one that has to make the kill.". He frowned a little at that, trying not to question a job. He hated this. You tell him some big goon has to die? No problem, it was done...but a young girl? He didn't see any honor in that. Not that honor belong anywhere near his line of work.

The man had to fight a laugh. Dean Winchester had a point. Zacharia was a bit of pain but Cas would never say such a thing out loud. You never go against the family. Castiel closed his eyes as Deans fingers ran through his hair. No matter what happened, no matter how bad things got , a simple touch from Dean like that always eased the older soldier. He felt at ease by Deans side.
It was a shame they had to keep their feelings such a secret.
When Dean confessed his next job Castiel opened his eyes again, lifting his head off Deans chest and blue eyes met those of green. The angelic faced male looked concerned. He knew Dean, he knew how Dean hated when children got dragged in to their mess. His ledger was just as filled with blood as Castiels but Castiel had hardened his heart to it. Dean still had not.

Dean stared into Cas's eyes for a couple seconds before he couldn't hold it anymore and quickly looked away. He let out a small forced laugh and shrugged his shoulders. "I do my job, what else can I do?". Not that he didn't have some kind of choice. He could say no, not like Michael would have him killed for it. He'd just not and get somebody else to do it, but the disappointment would be hard to work off. He might be dropped in position, in respect.
Finally he looked back at Cas, smiling weakly. "Can't go against the family."
There was such pain in those eyes, Castiel hated it. He hated that a man so beautiful and kind as Dean Winchester was stuck in a world like this because of his family. At night Castiel prayed for some way out, for a way for Dean to live away from this but the man knew his request fell on deaf ears. There was no God. Why would he want this people to suffer like this?
Castiel closed his eyes, imagining what life would be like if he and Dean met under different circumstances. If this wasn't their real lives, if it was all just a dream. "We could run away." He murmured, opening his eyes to slowly look up at the man. "We could leave all of this behind."
"Yeah, right." Dean laughed until he saw the look in Castiel's eyes. "Wait...you're serious? Where would we go? What would we do? I mean you'd be ok but your family would kill me for sure. Besides...I'm good at what I do.". Deans opinion of himself wasn't the best but he knew he was good at his job, it was one of the only things he felt he actually was good at...why leave that behind?
Castiel brushed his hand over the mans cheek, holding it there as he took a deep breath. There was no way he would let any one in his family hurt Dean. Not a chance in hell. And Michael would probably want Castiel's head on a platter for taking Dean with him. They would both be hunted.
"My family would kill me as well, as long as Michael ordered it. We could do anything, Dean. We do not have to stay here."
"We could do anything? Yeah right," he pulled away slightly from his lovers grasp. "We'd live the rest of our lives afraid somebody was watching us. Come on Cas, don't be an idiot. This is my job, this is your family. I worked my ass off to get here and I'm not gonna throw it all away to live in South America!". He knew he sounded a little harsh, he had to be. It was his defense mechanism when he was scared, he just hoped the other man didn't notice.
Alright, that was a bit hurtful to be honest. Castiel let Dean pull away, didn't grab for him or drag him closer. The man kept to himself, eyes falling upon his own lap as he folded his hands there.
"...I'm sorry. It was just.. a foolish idea."
Cas wrinkled his brow, frowning further before he pushed off and stood up from the couch towel that was on his shoulder staying behind. "I thought you may be sick of this life. That was my mistake."
"Hey, come on come back," he reached up and gently pulled on Cas to get him back in his arms. "Why would I be sick of this life? Good money, lots of security, I like most of the people I work with. Plus every night after a long day I get to come home to an expensive apartment and a sexy piece of ass," he smirked at Cas and hoped he wasn't too pissed. "I might not like everything I have to do in my job, but our lives could be a lot worse."
