I think we can handwave it? Just have Jake his usual distant, brokenly self is a good default. Jenna always makes him a little softer, so.. ^_^;
We can go the disease route. They can be holed up in his place together, maybe looking out for the first time after the outbreak? If that's okay to go on, you can start. If not, ask me mooooar. :3
[Jenna and Jake had been holed up for a couple of weeks now in his home due to this virus. His mother was still stuck at hospital, the place she goes for her rehab (I think it is only rehab, unless it is hospice as well?) due to her accident when Jake was born. His father had been with her the day it all broke out. They used to call one another often to make sure each couple was all right, but since this outbreak continued on--the world was thrown into chaos. Lights began to flicker soon enough, with rolling brown outs happening often. The telephone one day just began to have a busy signal all the time. Too many people calling in to the same place to see if it was all right to move around now? Was the virus gone? Would the world come back to its normal, messed up ways again? May be the whole phone company succumbed, who knew? Jake and Jenna, they didn't! At one point she remembers them making a quick out trip, they headed to a pharmacy to try and get some of those masks and other important things. The place had been empty

[Jake had gone through the stages specific to him, and not other people, you could say. There was no denial; he knew exsctly what was going on and accepted it. It just sucked ass.
If Jenna had been caught out there - fuck, he didn 't even want to think about that. She wasn't, but here safe with him. It was a lucky chance, but he wouldn't call it a lucky 'escape' because they were trapped. Forced to listen to people outside, wanting in or crying out for help... that they couldn't risk giving.
He was used to the lack of food, the institution being the kind that rationed you down on survivor meds and liquid because they could. He worried for her more, stress and worry seeming to make her shrink before his eyes...]
Jen. [one morning, drifting out of sleep, he lay a hand on her shoulder. His expression tight, determined. He wanted to try and go out.]
[She groaned out, and moved away from his hand. Grumpy, tired from her meds. Thankfully, they were able to find her heart meds on their sojourn out into the world. Now she just has to cope with what is going on, not even sure if she can?]
Why? There is people out there, sick people! [To say she wasn't scared would be a lie, a horrible, terrible lie!]
You don't have to. [he sighed, wishing he wasn't so easy for her to read, and he didn't cave easily on telling her. He moves through to the bathroom for a quick, bracing run of cool water over his face and neck. No shower for him - they didn't know how long their water would last so they were always cutting back.]
You won't go out.. and I can't stay in. [he states softly, rubbing a towel through his short hair quickly.] I have to go... I have to see, Jenna. [fuck, he didn't even know how long they were in here.]
You. Are. Not. Leaving. Me. Alone! [She snapped out, a yell without thought, she was just suddenly feeling so desperate that she could feel her whole body vibrating.]
No...no, no...no...[She flung the sheets off and began to pace, a bit wildly. Her hand in her hair, scratching at her scalp a bit as she did so.]
You can't. You can't! You can't! [She stopped, facing him, but not looking at him. She was severely panicking now. The stress, lack of panic meds, lack of food, lack of civilization and all those poor souls who would constantly hound his house were all stacking up for her in a very short amount of time. Her hands were shaking so hard that it began to make her whole body vibrate. She suddenly broke down and began to beg him.]
You can't! You can't? [She sobbed softly in comparison to how the rest of her seemed to be breaking down.]
[he was just moving past her at the first burst of words and turned with a quirk of the brow. It was the wrong way to word it and she knew that - he hated being restricted. People telling him what to do.
But as the panic sets in and he watches her, quietly as he always does so he won't aggravate her more, he knows she isn't in her right mind. He sighs, coming closer to her. But he won't waver, so he can't wrap his arms around her like he wants. Like maybe she needs.] Jenna. You need to calm down, okay.. you're freaking out.
[She looked at him like she had been slapped. Biting her bottom lip hard enough to make it bleed. She pushed past him and and growled out a harsh.]
Fuck you! [Storming into the bathroom, she just about slammed the door when she hissed out.]
...know how to make me hate you! [Once the door was closed, she slid down the door, and began to cry hard against a towel so as to not get him involved in something he seemed to not want to get involved in.]
[he almost smirks to himself as he turns around and slides his body back against the door on the other side. Maybe she can feel he's there, maybe not. But he won't be calling her out. So he'll stay here.]
