[Caroline knows hitchhiking is dangerous, but she's pretty sure she can take care of herself. With her car broken down, she had pondered using her vampire speed to get to the next town or walk. Since the next town was over 60 miles away, she decides to walk and hitchhike. What could possibly go wrong?

So with her bag over her shoulder, she starts to walk, slowing to stick her thumb out when a car approaches.]

[at the side of the road, about ten minutes down, Clay was kicking his flat tire at the rims, arms spread over his windows as he set his forehead there and groaned. Come on! Of all the - he just tuned up this engine!] Shit...

[blowing out slowly, his hand runs through his hair, pushing shaggy bangs out of his eyes. He squints, sun at her back so all he can make out as she approaches.. is she's definitely a girl. And she seems to have the same idea he has - hitchhiking it is.

Clay gives a light wave, trying to get her attention. He's guarded, but friendly.] Hey! Car trouble?

[Caroline sees him before he probably sees her. With a small smile, she moves over to where he's standing, her eyes going to the flat on car. When he asks his question, she nods.]

Yeah, my car broke down about a mile back. The car thing I get with my insurance won't come all the way out here to tow me, so I'm kind of stuck.

Something in the oil? [he's a little suspicious even as he makes this joke. Clay sighs. May as well make the most of it, he guessed.]

-- I'd say hitch a ride.. but really, there's nowhere to really go around here.. [which brings him to his next question -] You on an adventure or something? Nobody really travels close to here...

I'm not sure. It chugged a little bit before dying. [Maybe if her dad had actually taught her about cars, she would know what was going on with it.]

Well, that's great. I was hoping to at least get a ride to the next town, wherever that is. [She sets her bag in the ground and nods.] I am. Needed to get away from home for a while. How about you?

Sorry. I'd take a look, you know, if.. I remembered Auto Shop. [nah, the most information Clay got on motors now was Top Gear. He offers her a slight smile.]

If you're tired, I make a great luggage carrier. [he lifts his arms, a little self-conciously, but sincere. He doesn't tell her where he'd headed. It's not important because it's just... well, anywhere.]

That's fine. I should have paid attention those times my dad tried to explain car things to me.

[When he offers to carry her luggage, Caroline almost says no, but remembers she needs to act human, even if she's not. So she hands over her bag, and smiles.]
