It didn't go quite as planned. The biggest fuck up in that plan being that bastard son of a bitch that won't just fucking die already. If Deacon had known that Blade was going to be there, he'd have taken more back up. Canon fodder at the very least to shield him some more.
There's still smoke coming off him when he gets back to his building. His face is a mess from UV exposure and he barely makes it to one of the communal rooms before passing out on the couch.
Ruby's curled up on one of the arm chairs, sitting side ways with her wings outstretched and iPod blaring in her ears, when Deacon stumbles into the room and flops down onto the nearest sofa.
At first she doesn't notice anythings out of the ordinary. Its when the older vampire doesn't move any further that concern sets in, and Ruby slides off the chair and crawls towards him.
Her eyes go wide when she sees the burns on his face. "Deacon?" Her hands flutter uselessly in front of him, not willing to touch, and her wings twitch.
His eyes open enough to squint at her, his face still stings at even that small movement and he can only see a fuzzy shape in one eye, the other is completely blinded by the artificial sunlight.
... It looks like an angel is crouching over him though.
"Well, fuck... Do I get an escort?" He means down to Hell... He's a little delirious.
There's a moment where Ruby studies his face, and after a moment, she stands to go and turn off the light in the room, plunging it into near darkness -though her vision wasn't at all affected.
"A what? Deak, what happened?" She's careful when she touches him, fingers barely brushing the burns on his face.
The darkness is welcome and he closes his eyes to it. Ruby's voice is more familiar to him now and he's glad that he's not ash after all. As glad as he can be with half his skin burning so hot he's sure it's still melting.
He makes a noise, about to reply when he realizes that his first impression had been right; Ruby does have a pair of wings coming out of her back. He reaches up, blackened fingers brushing the white feathers.
"This isn't fucking Romeo and Juliet, you know..."
"Probably a good thing. I don't plan on taking silver to my heart to kill myself." She glances up at the wings and sighs. She'd been waiting for Deacon to return so that someone could help figure out what the fuck was going on.
But in his current sate, Ruby was more worries about how to help him. "Deacon. What can I do?"
"Don't. I hear it fucking hurts worse than this..." Despite his poking fun at his own injury, he can't help but be interested by this new development. Was it a mutation of the virus?
"I dunno, baby, that looks pretty fucking painful." She brushes a finger over burnt skin, all feather soft touches. At his comment she rolls her eyes. "Deac, we need to get you fixed up first. We can deal with them later."

"Scud failed to warn me... Blade..."
His pet will pay for it later.

Soft feather brush over Deacon's shoulders, and Ruby's hand flutter uselessly in front of him.
