Sweet #2 -- I just had to :) thehatman February 15 2012, 23:13:03 UTC
Dinner, Sherlock has to admit (and only somewhat grudgingly), is decidedly less boring when John's there. Not because he doesn't already know everything these is to know about John, like the fact he was supposed to be visiting whats-her-name earlier this evening - there's no other excuse for wearing that brand of aftershave - but because, despite his exasperation, the long-suffering sigh and the you-texted-me-to-have-dinner-with-you rants, he values John's company. His input.

And the fact that he's armed.

The Rose Garden, Wandsworth. Bring a gun. - SH, was the text Sherlock had used to call him away to this grimy little pub in south London ( ... )

The text hadn't been as alarming as it should have been. Being asked to bring his gun to random places isn't all that alarming anymore. He prefers it actually, at least when he's with Sherlock. One never knows when they'd need a gun while working with the 'great Sherlock Holmes'.

However, he is slightly upset because the text at interrupted his date with Lindsay, a new nurse he'd met the other day. He had missed Sherlock over the time he'd been gone, missed him greatly and now that he's back he'd drop anything to go run around with Sherlock again. It's like it was before The Fall. He sighs and takes up the glass of Carling. Two large mouthfuls before sitting the glass back down.

"And why are we going to be here for awhile?" John asked sharply. The menu in front of him didn't offer a lot of different foods and to be honest this isn't the type of pub that looks good for eating. "And why am I armed?"

[ ooc; :D It's a very nice tag indeed ( ... )

"I'm waiting for someone, " Sherlock replies simply, running the tip of a finger absently over his lip in the way he does when he's particularly deep in thought. His narrowed eyes don't so much as flicker towards John's face, intent as they are upon the spot over his shoulder. "And reconnaissance takes time."

He makes a point of ignoring the question about the gun - honestly, John, why does anybody carry a weapon? - but, with a good deal of reluctance, he forces himself to look away from the bar and, straightening in his seat, palms flat on the table, he turns to John.

"You don't have to eat, you can always just keep drinking," he tells him seriously, "but I remember someone telling me once that handguns and alcohol don't mix. Might want to consider staying sober."

His pint, the foam bubbling temptingly at the top, remains untouched.

[ooc: Yay! That's more what I was leaning towards (because it broke my heart and I'm still trying to reassemble the pieces T__T) so that's perfect! I'm happy to go along with the three year gap ( ... )

Obviously they're waiting for someone. Sherlock would never ask him out for a drink just to get a drink, there has to be a purpose. "Shouldn't that be we're waiting for someone, Sherlock?" He makes the dig but knows it won't do much in the way of making Sherlock understand. There is a 'we' but only when Sherlock chooses to acknowledge it.

John shifts in his seat so that Sherlock can see more of the bar and also to hide his hand gun a bit more. He's guessing they're going to get into some kind of fight or criminal chase, and that has John's heart picking up the pace.

"Of course I'll stay sober while carrying a loaded gun." John rolls his eyes. Sherlock...really?

[ ooc; I'm very broken from the last episode. It killed me. And the fact that there is like a year before we get to see anything more is killing me slowly. I think three year gap works just perfectly for me. ]
