[Knight Lestrade nods slowly, not letting his guard down. Molly is lovely but if her grandmother is an evil witch, he will have to defeat her nonetheless. He gapes a bit as she mentions wanting or not wanting duty, blinking. He never really thought about it that way.] I’m afraid this is not how it works, good lady. Duty chooses you, you do not choose duty. [He smiles, relaxing in his chair.] It was during the days of the black war. The enemy wasat our doors, so the King chose to trust a couple of good peasants with the child, to hide until it was safe. He has been trying to recover the heir since then.
[Knight Lestrade nods slowly, gravely.] They took the child, yes. And disappeared with it. The King and the Queen are, as you can imagine, quite desperate.
[Lestrade blinks a bit at the question, swallowing dryly.] Surely, you must have heard... Nobody is allowed to have children at Court since the Queen lost her child. My brother's wife had to flee when she realised she was expecting.
[Lestrade smiles, sadly.] It's only at Court, the rest of the kingdom is still free. The King is not inconsiderate enough to inflict that on all of his good subjects. [He shakes his head, slowly.] I preferred to stay unmarried, for these very reasons.
Oh, I see. I'm...sorry to hear that. [That was tragic to Molly - almost more so than the missing Heir] But what about... [She pauses, pressing her lips together. She's having second thoughts about her question - he'll likely think her silly]
[Lestrade chuckled, accepting her worry with a smile but not offering any more information on the matter, raising an eyebrow at the unfinished question, wondering where she was going with it.] Yes?
[Lestrade's eyes widen a little.] Well, I suppose it is not something that would be easily forbidden. [He smiles, shaking his head.] I have yet to find the lady of my dreams.
[Molly smoothes out her dress with a half-smile, eyes curious.] How will you know when you find her? I'm afraid I don't know anything about such matters...
[Lestrade fidgets a bit before he remembers that it's not dignified for a knight to do so, and stops.] I suppose... You just know, when you see them? [Courtly love is hardly his strong suit. Quests and monsters and stuff, yeah. Ladies... not so much.]
[Molly opens her mouth to reply, noticing a slight change in him, but that's when the tea kettle goes off.] Oh! Pardon me, back in a moment.
[When she returns, she places his tea in front of him with a smile] Well, whoever the lady of your dreams is, I'm sure she's lovely and I hope you find her someday. After you find the Heir, of course.
[She turns to go and retrieve her own cup. The conversation has her thinking quite a bit about the concept of love. Grandmother never talks to her about it, won't even entertain the notion. Molly wonders if she'll ever find love someday, and when she takes her next step she suddenly feels very weak and dizzy, and stumbles to grab something to catch her balance]
[Lestrade nods, feeling a little grateful for the interruption though he tries not to, since it is undignified as well, for a knight, to cower in front of a few simple questions.]
Thank you, good lady. [He replies politely as she brings him a cup of fuming tea, feeling himself flush just a bit when she mentions finding both the Heir and the lady of his dreams.] I... erm. Well, thank you for this, as well. I do hope you find a suitable husband too.
[He looks up as she seems dizzy of a sudden, concerned when she stumbles and quite swiftly rising to his feet.] Are you feeling all right, good lady? [His eyes widen when she stumbles, quickly reaching out for her and managing to catch her arm before she can fall to the ground.
And... there it is. Lestrade could slap himself for not seeing it before. Underneath his hand, on Molly's wrist, the tell-tale birthmark. He stares at her.]

Do you have any children, Sir Knight?

Really? That's...my word, won't the kingdom die out if the heir isn't found? Isn't your wife sad?

[Love is one of those things Molly's only read about in books.]
