[He wondered what Mr White wanted with him at this hour. He had gotten the message at home, him being summoned to meet up with the man for something 'serious.' It sounds crazy but he was kind of worried. Did he do something to anger Mr White off? Did his Dad, who has been known to butt heads with other business men?
Here now at the meeting spot he had been asked to go, Jeremy waited for the arrival of the other man but was finding himself wondering if he could skip this meeting for another... more comfortable time and place. Him and Mr White just by themselves, in this hour and place, was making him nervous.]
You could. [ He murmurs, shoulder pressed into the doorway of the bar he had told Jeremy to meet him behind-- Nikolai wasn't much for bars, however it was closest to the hotel he resided in without actually being there; not that it wasn't his end goal, because it was, but more so telling the young man to meet him at a hotel likely wouldn't have gone on over so well. Not that Nikolai was old, only in his twenties and of a small stature-- it was his presence that caused the most intimidation. He may not have been overbearing but he was none the less a threat. ]
Though, I wouldn't advise it. [ Stepping forward he adjusted those crisp white gloves, watching him with the stare of a predator. ]
[He had to stifle the gasp that came to his throat like a moron by slapping a hand over his mouth and quickly felt foolish. He long had Nikolai been standing there? Long enough to hear him considering leaving or not. He had to compose himself for a minute or two before responding, his heart fluttering in his chest like a panicked bird in a suffocating cage.
Turning to face Nikolai, he gave a cheerful smile that wasn't really honest and a wave that wasn't as energetic as usual. It was clear as day that Nikolai intimidated him and Jeremy wondered what he had gotten himself into.]
I... I won't. Promise. I was just... I was just thinking outloud like a silly kid as usual. [He finally breaks his gaze with Nikolai's eyes, not one to face a... to face a person like Nikolai.] So, I'm here. What do you need from me? Did I do something wrong?
You're hardly a kid anymore, Jeremy. [ He murmurs giving him a momentary look over-- the gesture wasn't lewd so much as it was calculating. Inspecting him, he hardly seemed like a kid, and excuses like that were hardly acceptable to Nikolai. He didn't like liars, didn't like people trying to play him, he was vicious enough on his own he didn't need encouragement. ]
You haven't done anything, at least-- not yet, though your father is quite in debt. Did he mention? [ He paces a little, but it's slow, every movement practice, eyes trained on the other still. ] Quite a lot, and doesn't seem inclined to pay, it's a pity, really-- I don't like having to be forceful about these sorts of things.
[Any sense of false security Jeremy had told to himself vanished when Mr White began talking about his Dad's debt. He knew about his Dad's shadier dealings. Ever since his Mum got sick, he became Dad's confidant and learned a lot of things he wished he hadn't. This included the amount of debt he had made with people he went to when he wanted something done... faster

He almost hadn't noticed in time. The sniper's mind had been just on the edge of his telepathic limits but the drive to kill another had caught his attention.
There was no time to think, only act. Charles spreads his influence wide, fingers to his temples, giving everyone the same thought to GET DOWN NOW DANGER, everyone falling to the floor and covering their heads at his mental command. He was the only one left standing as the shot goes off, sailing just short of Nickolai's head.
Charles stays standing and concentrates, the sniper suddenly unable to keep from falling asleep behind his gun. He breathes a sigh of relief, that was close.
The thudding of his own heart is so loud he can barely hear over it for a few seconds; the flash of broken glass and the hole in the wall the only sign of what had happened. His body had moved of it's own accord and Nikolai-- he hardly understood the entirety of what had happened. Pushing up slowly he stared through the hole and then to the glass. His security starts to gather themselves up, all as sure as Nikolai they've heard something in their heads, moved without their own will; but Nik can only spare so long before he's barking orders, confused.
"Fucking hell--" The cursing wasn't the usual for the prim man, but at this point he can still feel the rabbiting thumb in his chest and lays a hand over it. "What was that--?"
Charles hopes nobody will think twice about the voice in their head. Besides, it wasn't like it could be traced back to him. So he helps a few people up off the floor, making sure they're ok.
Security seems to be frazzled, trying to figure out what happened. Charles moves off to the side to stand against a wall, knowing they'll be finding the sniper soon. He closes his eyes and concentrates, finding the sleeping man's mind and rewriting a few things carefully. Whenever they wake him, he will have forgotten who he was shooting at...and possibly might have a chance at a normal life away from this. Charles is always giving people second chances.
Of course, what he doesn't think of is the fact any security footage is going to show him standing alone as the rest of the people in the room fall down right before the shot rings out.
A second chance wasn't likely, not with men like Nikolai after them-- he would be interrogated and his refusal to answer would likely lead to his death. It wasn't pleasant but Nikolai couldn't have men who went after him as such living-- no, they were a threat and if they killed him he knew he deserved it; but that didn't mean he was going to make it easy. Still, with everyone rushing around he takes a moment to catch his breath, still trying to soothe the hard thump of his heart with his palm.
He doesn't even seem to notice Charles till one of the security guards comes up, whispers in his ear, tips his head toward the man and Nikolai stares. There's a familiarity there-- but not only that, the man was suspicious-- stock still during the shooting. The mobster isn't one to pussyfoot around things, instead a heavy stride carries him over to the Brit. "You." He breathes, anxiously.
Charles looks up as he's addressed. There is a similarity in their features that is curious but not overly so. He hopes this isn't going to be about what he just did a moment ago because a quick check of the man's mind shows he's the owner of this place. He'll play it dumb for awhile first. "Me, sir? That was pretty frightening, is everyone alright? Nobody hurt?"
"Why didn't you duck?" He breathes out quietly, he doesn't want to alert the other patrons, panic anyone more than they already were-- this was terrible for business, and this man sure looked like a plant-- why else would he standing while the rest of the room was cowering on the floor? "Everyone else did, you didn't. I want to know why."
