[how are they coping? well, Ed's not exactly coping]
CRAAAAAAASSSSHHHHHHH
[somehow, the child had climbed up on a bookcase and proceeded to fling himself (herself?) off of it... luckily Ed was there to catch the kid, but it mean landing on the coffeetable and smashing it to bits]
Because of her work, Kiriko prefers the 'pretend (unsuccessfully) to be emotionally unattached to family' approach. It doesn't work very well, especially during accidents. Hearing the crash from the study, where she was working on her machine, Kiriko literally drops everything and runs breathless into the room.
A hand flies to her mouth and she looks down at the wreckage in a panic. Two more years of her life gone.]
[What about the lives Ed lost seeing his little boy on top of that bookshelf? huhhh kid needs a name... Ed groans quietly while the toddler screams with laughter, wiggling about in Ed's grasp. After a moment, Ed slowly sits up.]
Our son attempted to test the laws governing human flight. I tested the load capacity of the table. Both failed.

[Considering they are both Doctors, there was nothing wrong with their child being born at "home," in the clinic. And so night fell on their child's birthday. Kiriko, having not slept since the whole thing began the previous day, prays she'll be able to get some semblance of sleep, curled up in a bed near Black Jack's and the baby's. Signs point to No.]

[Congratulations, new parents. The sleep is a lie.]
[YUP and now baby is going to to cry. And cry. For no reason other than she is a baby and she can. Tamiko is a very loud baby.]
[Black Jack, obviously also in the same boat for lack of sleep, is attempting to crawl out of her bed to see what the silly baby needs. She'll get there. Eventually.]

[Why did they have to end up with a colicky baby, it just isn't fair. Entire body aching from lack of sleep and shot nerves, Kiriko slowly rises. And since the baby is already awake anyway, begins to loudly scold her Mother.]
What are you doing! You shouldn't get out of bed!
[She's on her feet in a flash, stumbling in the dark to pick up their teeny baby girl from her crib with the reverence usually reserved for a priceless artifact. Looks like she's hungry again...]
