This wasn't supposed to be serious.

Addison had just been through a divorce and a break-up with a man she thought she loved. Izzie was still crazy about someone she could never get back. This was just meant to be a... thing. A 'palate cleanser' is what Izzie called it after the first time, but Addison said, "Please don't call sex a palate cleanser."

"What should I call it?"

Addison shrugged her shoulders. "Sex."

"Okay." Izzie nodded. "This is just sex."

And, for awhile, Addison believed it could be just sex; a way to pass the time until their heads were clear enough to start looking for the real thing again. But, after a couple of months, she realized she had been fooling herself once again. She tried to break it off after she realized the risk of falling in love with another inappropriate person, but she didn't. Couldn't. And anyway, she could've just been imagining the warmth she felt every time Izzie smiled at her.

Could've. But wasn't.

Now, she just hopes she's deluding herself when she thinks Izzie isn't ready to love her back.
