Lauren is wrapped up in a quilt when she says, "I like you. I mean, of course I like you. I've had a lot of sex with you. Not that I haven't had sex with people I disliked. You know, the whole hate-equals-lust thing. That hasn't happened often. I'm not a giant fan of hate-sex."
"It can be fun."
Lauren nods. "Yes. Dirty, dirty fun. But most of the time, I like nice, dirty fun. Good sex without scowling or angry biting."
Mary-Louise raises an eyebrow and steps into her shoe. "Who angrily bit you?"
"That doesn't matter. What I'm saying is, I like you. A lot."
This feels strangely important for a declaration of like, but then again, it's just a few steps away from love. "I like you, too."
"That's good. And I just realized how middle school it is to tell you that I like you. Except I did it after spending an afternoon going down on you. Actually, that's probably still kind of middle school. Which makes me feel gross. I wish I hadn't brought it up."
"Yeah." She scrunches up her nose. "Me, too."
Lauren shrugs. "I still like you."
