Balticon Days Three and Four

Slept in again Sunday, although not quite as late. Spent an enjoyable hour at the podcasting and music panel, which focused on ways to integrate music with podcasts and where to find music. Went to part of the Folk Songs for Kids of All Ages, which was part of the kids track and featured Mary Crowell, Gary Ehrlich, and Dave Clement doing round ( Read more... )

The harper here! Hi -- I think the female duo (if it was the one that did the "subversive folk song" in the myths and legends circle) is one part of Sassafras!

Yeha, I loved Marnen's fiddle -- yum. I'm sorry I didn't get to more of the filking -- I crashed out on Friday, and it closed up -so- early on Saturday (before I showed) and Sunday.

Thanks for adding the harp to the mix! I'm always fascinated by harps, as they sound really cool and, quite honestly, look like a bitch to play and maintain. I've always admired harpers (or is it harpists? or is that like violin and fiddle - it depends on what you are playing?)

And thanks for the tip on Sassafrass - I checked out their website, and while it didn't have any pictures to be absolutely sure, the description sounds like them. I'll see if they post a Balticon Report to confirm. They had some great stuff, and I enjoyed them in the filk circle all three nights.

Harper vs Harpist: It's almost but not quite like violin vs fiddle, yes. The easy way to do it is is pedal harp = harpist; lever/celtic harp = harper.

I recognized Sassafrass (well, a duo of same; the whole band is larger and I'm not sure how much of it you need to be Sassafrass) before they sang. They're a lot of fun.

That was Sassafrass - the two of us who were at Balticon were myself (Irina, seishonagon on LJ) and Zara (angstnokami on LJ). We greatly enjoyed your lyrics, and I hope we see you again - you were tremendous fun to listen to!

angstnokami has already posted a Balticon report on her Livejournal. I haven't gotten around to it yet due to illness, but will be doing so soon.

You can also find Sassafrass at sassafrassmusic, and our MySpace page, as well as our website. Thanks for the kind words!
