There is an audience for this, don't worry. :D

I'd suggest that you just put a link to a site with the romaji lyrics, but hey, that's just me.

Good to know there is haha! XD

Linking isn't such a bad idea since there are already a lot of lyrics that are written in romaji, but maybe I'd also do it myself since there are certain songs (like those from UVERworld) which are not so popular. If I do the romaji for those, might as well do it for the rest. :)

Is there an audience for this sort of thing?
>> I'm not a a fan, but yep. Just be consistent with updates. You can actually make a profit out of it as well! Do a bit of SEO and include AdSense and you're good to go. Not only that you're learning, you're earning as well.
Should I post romaji along with the furigana?
>> I think audiences will appreciate that, and it'll make you look more credible.
Currently, I'm considering posting the lyrics on Blogspot since the CSS overrides that I need seem to work there. I can't seem to work around the LJ codes for now. If anyone has suggestions for other blogging platforms that allow custom CSS overrides for free where I can post, that would be great. :)
>> Don't worry yourself too much with technical stuff. Use tumblr! Skinning is easy, and people can actually easily re-share your stuff.

Oooh, earning from it on the side. Not a bad idea! XD

Yeah, maybe I should, no? The fact that I can read hiragana and katakana should mean that I should be able to convert the lyrics to romaji.

About the CSS, I actually need it for the lyrics format themselves and not the layout. Since I'm going to code them quite primitively (tables ftw!) just so it would actually look like proper furigana, I need a platform which would allow me to encode that without having me put the formatting in each and every cell or row. I haven't tried Tumblr yet, but if it does suit my needs then that's where I'm going to post it. :)

I have very little frame of reference to understand what you mean, but if you say it helps learn to read Japanese, then it looms on my horizon :D I'm in favor!

I disagree with the anonymous poster though- it could be dangerous and probably illegal to earn money off of this, JE is VERY protective of their content. If you think it's worth the risk, I don't see a moral issue with it, but you could be setting yourself up for future problems.

Here be the Wiki article on furigana. It's basically putting hiragana above the kanji to see how it's read. :) The thing with song lyrics is that they can sometimes deviate from normal readings but I also intend to provide notes in such cases.

About earning money, you're right about that. I also had to look up the terms and conditions of AdSense and since I'll only be owning the furigana and not the lyrics themselves it could be grounds for copyright infringement. It can be very risky since I'm opening this up to everyone and not just as a locked comm somewhere.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

And yes, we haven't! I'm actually quite busy with work so when I'm in LJ I just lurk. XD
