On music and a bit of shameless plugging

Real life's been trying to kill me slowly, so I'll distract myself for a while. :P (Yes, it's around 3am where I am right now and I don't feel sleepy at all.)

First off, I'm now a co-moderator of G Clef no Arashi! It hasn't even been a year since I became part of the Arashi fandom, but when thefortysecond created this community I knew I had to become active ( Read more... )

It's interesting, I had a very different musical upbringing from you. I had always been interested in music, and my parents bought a small Casio keyboard when I was around ten. The thing is, we could never afford lessons, so I did everything by ear- I never learned to read music, or anything formal. I kind of plateaued after a while- I could only get so far on my own, without a clue about cords or notes. When I was sixteen I moved to a high school that offered a music-major program, and there I started learning about theory and notation. Now I'm in college, majoring in Musicology. I'm very good at theory, but I'm terrible at reading scores- I can, it's just agonizingly slow, and God save anyone who asks me to sight-read ( ... )

Wall of text is very much appreciated, really. :D

Musicology sounds very interesting! My high school actually has a very good music program for college students but for some reason I was not inclined to pursue further studies in music. It's probably because my parents wished for me to go for a more practical college degree while still staying true to one of my interests (in my case it's Computer Science).

Ah, sight-reading is a pain for me most of the time, too. Mostly I can't get the timing right. Actually, it's more appropriate to say that I can hardly sight-read haha!

I'm now trying to work on notating the piano solo of the Ooku theme, and it does seem that doing stuff bit by bit is the best way to go. :) Hopefully I'll be able to churn out something substantial soon.

Salamat! Seryoso, hindi ko akalaing magiging co-mod ako this soon haha! :P Actually at first gusto ko sana mag-work with a subbing group as QC (kasi sobrang OC ako sa grammar) pero mas time-consuming siya and wala akong experience.
