I'm beginning to wonder if disregarding spelling and grammar in the first draft might be a sign of seriousness.

My spelling and grammar are fairly strong so I don't really have to focus on them. I don't pay particular attention to that in the first draft anyway. I certainly don't pay attention to sentence structure and that sort of thing. Personally I think the later drafts are for the mop-up work. lol
