Save the UFPC bell tower and various other stuff

The National Trust for Historic Preservation has named twenty-five finalists as worthy historic structures in the greater Boston area. One of them, of course, is the Church of the Presidents (aka UFPC). Wasn't Specter a democrat to begin with but then he went to the republicans and now came back? Or should I not listen to my mother who has probably confused him with Leiberman and someone else LOL?

I believe Specter was a Democrat until 1966 (after his magic bullet creation made him unpopular among certain folk). He has been a Republican for forty-three years, though, so this is a major change of faith. It's just not Goldwater's party anymore, which is probably why all of Goldwater's family votes Democrat.

The thing about Spector is that it isn't a philosophical jump it's a survivalist one.

Or another way of describing it is he gives the voters, rather than the party, what they want. With the GOP huddling round the base campfire that was bound to cause problems for him
