I've started into my diet full-on this week again. I managed to keep within my 5lb range over the holidays.
My frustration is my shoulders have developed tendonitis (at least that's my doctor's guess without MRI) from all the arm movements in my workouts, especially Pilates. I'm having to rest my arms and shoulders more and will modify and even eliminate a few moves to avoid this again.
Of course, this means the muscle development and cardio are not as effective right now. :-(
Yeah, I gained a couple of pounds over the holidays too, but I was pretty proud that I mostly maintained within my 5lb leeway.
Way to go on your diet! You've really been doing awesome and it sounds like a fantastic one. I've been amazed at how much of a diference it's made by shifting our focus so we're taking in lots of lean protein (even if we have to supplement) and still making sure we get all those veggies and fruits in and making sure the carbs we eat are whole grain. I'm all for diets that are true lifestyle changes and not just quick fixes.
That stinks! Hope you can get that healed up and back on track soon. :/
This morning I said "fuck it," and did my cardio using my arms anyway. It's been 6 weeks since my shoulders have been idle, and it hasn't helped much. So I figure it is what it is, and I'll just have to live with it until it gets better, or it gets bad enough to warrant the additional testing. I have a very low tolerance for pain, so I'm figuring there isn't anything bad enough to find yet.
Meanwhile, ibuprofin is my friend.
The Digest Diet just came out with a cookbook you might want to look into. Lots of whole food, healthy recipes.
Ugh, that really sucks to sort of be in limbo like that. Have they given you any physical therapy advice besides rest?
I just looked at it and it really sounds great! P90X has a nutrition plan with a cookbook, too that's supposed to be tailored to the needs of someone doing the workouts. But I think I'll look into this when I'm done! I have a feeling that even once I've lost this 25 pounds I'm aiming for, I'm still going to have body fat percentage that isn't healthy and any help I could get in burning the rest of that off would be fabulous!
Congrats on being able to do a pull-up. I don't think I can. I have very little upper body strength, at least proportionately (I can probably do a straight lift of 300 or so, but can't haul myself up with just my arms :P). I've been trying to work out at the Y 3 to 4 times a week. But as I am doing it over my lunch hour, I don't have a lot of time. Still, I typically get in some sprinter's squats (weight across shoulders, lunge type position, and just dip down about 6 inches. Doesn't put as much stress on the knees), rows, flys, and hopefully abs. Then spend 20 minutes on the erg-bike. Currently getting between 7.5 and 8 miles in 24 minutes (counting cool-down). Yet, my weight barely changes for the most part. And I know it's mainly my eating habits of just having too much, since we tend to eat pretty healthily. But I have come down my highest of 293 at least :) Still got a ways to go for a goal of 220 (same goal for the last three years) which I've gotten close to once or twice, but about October weight picks back up to about 240.
( ... )
Heh, yeah, I've got tons of power in my legs but I'm like a T-Rex when it comes to upper body strength. I can also do exactly one pushup very painfully
( ... )
I for a while was following the 100- pushups routine (look it up) which had the goal of doing 100 pushups within about 6 weeks of working at it. I made it to week 3 (20-25 at a time) before I lost interest.
And yes... food is just so tasty :P I used to take Cr Picolinate, but haven't in some time. Got tired of pilling myself all the time. 5 a morning is bad enough still... Been trying to cook more soups, lower carbs, but haven't added in much protein. And I do sometimes do yoga (usually Lesley Samson) if Witchcat feels like it. But yeah... should do that more.
I was doing that for a while, too. I found a bunch of android apps that follow the program and start you off based on what you can currently do. Then you do the workouts (there's one for pushups, situps, squats and pullups) with your phone that tells you how many to do in each rep and how many reps and times the break in between for you... basically takes all the thinking out of it. Then you rate the workout, if it was too hard or too easy or just right and it recalculates what your next workout should be. You're supposed to do it every other day so you could probably alternate and do like pushups and squats one day and situps and pullups the next or something. But now I'm doing this, so I'm not doing ANYTHING else workout wise until I'm done. This is plenty, I can already tell after just two days

Will do! Like I mentioned above, I think I might check in every Sunday with progress reports. It'll keep me honest and I'll be able to see my progress. You're doing Insanity, right?
Yep, still doing Insanity! I don't follow the calendar anymore though... 4-5 times a week I just do whatever Insanity workout I'm in the mood for that day. :) Also still doing yoga every day, love it!
Interesting about the mirror thing. I've been doing that since I got back into Pilates. Indeed, It helps the body image thing I've also had going on all my life. I should try it with pictures!
And GO YOU! You will get where you want to be, and remain beautiful all the way. :D y
It's good stuff, no matter how you go about it. We can get too far into being our own worst critics otherwise.
Thank you, my friend! :D
It's a 90 day, high intensity home exercise program. It's kind of silly at times, but it's a really good workout! Strength training, Cardio, Yoga and a little bit of Martial Arts, 6 days a week for 45 minutes to an hour a day.
