The costuming year, oh where did it go?

Jan 09, 2013 12:44

It went to the holidays and a certain little boy's sixth birthday and an open house I threw for me and a few friends to sell some jewelry before Christmas. And here we are and it's CostumingMay already!

I've been thinking. It's what I do best, really. I'm going to approach this a little differently. I mean, I have my list. But I don't want to get ( Read more... )

Can't wait to see all your costumes this year!

I don't think we're doing Dragon*con this year. It's becoming a waste of money for us, when there's better things out there. We haven't had as much fun as we've hoped for the past few years. We'd rather an NZ trip. We are doing ALEP next year! It's our 10th anniversary, and since we met because of Tolkien, it only seems right!

Now we will be doing some new costumes, but I think it's time for a con break.

No pressure. ;)

Aw, we'll miss you for sure, but I totally understand it not being worth it. I'm really not looking forward to the crowds again (and I left before the worst of it last year). But I've only been a couple of times, so I'm not quite burned out on it yet. You guys are going to LOVE AL3P! What are the chances you might be able to swing Alqualonde in July? And there's GMX here in Nashville in October which is like crazy cheap compared to Dragon*Con! There's not quite as much to do because it's a much smaller con (like a fraction of a fraction of the people), but it's still a lot of fun.

Totally understand that you're not burnt out yet. I keep saying it, but it's definitely not the con I started going to. And I'm starting to think I'm growing out of cons all together.

I have yet to know what we'll make this year, as we're desperately trying to save up to make one of the Hobbit Premieres in NZ. That pulls weight above all else, and I'd rather go no where all year to be able to afford NZ at the end of the year! It's the eye-opening trip I think we both need. A growing, learning, loving experience you just can't get anywhere but there. Atleast for us!

If we do end up making anything, we'd love to do Alqualonde! So we'll definitely keep our fingers crossed for that!

Yeah, white is the colour of mourning for Hindus. I have a white cotton Indian outfit that I was going to wear one day to an Indian event and my Indian in-laws freaked out it was such bad luck. I added a bright red shawl, red leggings and lots of red bangles to make it acceptable. Still, seeing a happy married woman like me wearing white at all makes some of the older family members uncomfortable. Western influences on bridal wear are making silver and white a bit more common, but looking for happy heavy embroidered Indian trim in white is like looking for a black puffy princess wedding gown. Although, you'd think one could find white and silver trim made in India for the western bridal market...

That Heritage trims looks gorgeous, even if it isn't exactly right!

Wow, that's interesting! I guess that makes sense, then.

I have to stay away from that store unless I'm looking for something specific. So many pretties!
