I've had to make a difficult decision.

Last night I had every intention of staying up until I finished the last bits of my Celeborn mockup and cut everything out to put together today. I passed out just after 10pm ( Read more... )

Hugs you,
I entirely understand and have been there.
Try not to think about it as missing something, but more as having discovered suddenly you have more time. I know, easier said than done... I did that for Vlad.

Do you have a high banister you can hang fabric from after washing? That's how I dry stuff like dupioni after washing-- leaves less to iron out. Dupioni is notorious for causing ironing headaches like the one you describe...

I Cant Wait To See YOU!

Yes! More time to really work out that buckle design and make something of which I can be proud. More time for... well, everything really! Including ironing! ;)

I do have a high banister, but I had dried everything in the dryer. Luckily, the largest piece of dupioni was only 2yds by 54" and I didn't bother with ironing it yet because it still needs to be put through dye remover. I'll keep this in mind the next time I work with dupioni though.

Can't wait to see you, too! I awoke this morning feeling a weight lifted. I have room now to get excited about the event rather than dreading the deadline. YAY! :D

Silk in general seems to take the shape of whatever form it's in while drying, and is sorta crispy & hard after washing with water until you heat it up (either in the dryer or with an iron - though the heat can also set the wrinkles, so be careful with that), and dupioni particularly so.

We've totally all been there - don't feel badly! Remember it's supposed to be fun, and focus on the projects you can do.

I've worked with shantung, chiffon, habotai, noil, crepe de chine, organza and velvet, but never dupioni. Everything but the organza I threw in the washing machine and dryer. This is the first time I've seen something look like it might permanently crease if I didn't wet it again and dry it with the iron. I'll just remember to be a little more careful about how I handle dupioni in the future. I've gotten too used to abusing my silks. ;)

Indeed, as I told Yvette above, I awoke this morning excited for the event rather than anxious about my to do lists. With all the extra things that got piled on my plate at the last minute, I'm glad to feel like there's some breathing room and can definitely see the silver lining of dropping one of the projects.
