Yeah... they go fast! Try the Hilton. Its pretty nice rooms and fairly quiet there. If that doesn't work, keep an eye on them opening up more rooms in a block.

Someone said the Hilton block was gone weeks ago and that they just got a reg rate room. Tried the Hyatt as well and nothing there either.

Last year at least there was about 3 hours before they were completely gone. Double rooms were gone within an our but there were still kings. This year, nada. Damn overbooking! *shakes fist*

Ok, so no, the Hilton has not sold out. I've been able to find D*C rate rooms there, no prob. However, they want a $211 deposit. Has that always been the case? The Hyatt wanted a deposit (though they didn't have any rooms available or at least not for the 4 night period) but didn't require it until 60 days before check-in. Hilton apparently wants it now and if I'm going to possibly mess with a transfer later, I'm not sure I want to get into reimbursement for a deposit.

Hmm... not sure. Marie is the one who gets the room for us.

This is why it's not always worth it to go to D*C, the year long stress beforehand.

Well, really it's stress for a day 11 months prior (to book a room) and then probably 2-3 months of stress right before to get costumes done and make sleeping arrangements and all that shuffle. And, that's about as far as I've ever gotten with the stress. Hopefully next year I'll get to experience the stress of the actual con.

On the bright side, I can be your personal reporter monkey for ConCraft if you're unable to make it next year. ;)

Heh, for me, it's always a full year of stress, since I was always working on everyone else's costume and reserved the month of August for mine.

Me going next year revolves around a child support hearing or two, how well business goes, and how much money I can squirrel away, so I'm doubtful of actually going. Roving reporters will be needed!

I've pretty much decided to forget about going to D*Con, ever. It is just not worth the stress and hassle and idiocy that's required to get there. Right now the only way I would go is if I could stay with someone who lives in the area, and just commute in. I have a brother-in-law who lives down there... But even so, I don't really want to go anymore. At all. D*Con just sounds too d_____ big for my taste. :-P

It's definitely a hassle. I guess I'll find out if it's worth it or not. Of course, if I were rational, I'd remember how many people had rooms available in the weeks before the con and just not worry about it right now. But then, I like having certain plans about things.

Also, since I'm one person, it shouldn't be difficult for me to just hop into someone else's room (assuming I'm going on my own again next year. . . and of course assuming I make it there, heh). But again, having definite lodging puts my mind at ease.

Seems they've fixed it so that when people cancel the rooms go back into the con pool as well, so if I do wind up in someone else's room, I don't feel bad about canceling (and not having to mess with getting my deposit out of someone who wants a transfer).

It is quite huge and usually that is not my cup of tea. Were it not for so many friends that I have no other opportunities to see, I would not even consider it.

Well, who knows? I may yet go. But my life is so full of hassle right now, not to mention limitless frustrations, that to volunteer for even more stress would just send me straight into the padded cell.

I remember reading all the "I have an extra room" posts in August... Of course that will happen again in 2010. I mean, how could it not? It seems everyone is booking rooms in multiple hotels, and then cherry-picking among their bounty and cancelling the unwanted rooms later on. No wonder some hotels want a deposit!

Yeah, the reservations were all booked in 5-10 minutes. I didn't get one, but I asked to be added to the dragonconrooms community transfer list, which I have found to be fairly successful in the past, so I am not very concerned.

Pretty crazy, indeed. I thought about getting on the list, but I just don't know if I want to mess with a transfer at this point if I don't have to. A lot of people are moving over to the Hilton this year because of this, so I might just stay put.
