When did you first start signing with him? I have thought about trying a couple of signs with Gabriel, but I didn't know if there would be any 'results' starting before now (just turned 6 months). The only one I've really done is "milk", but I haven't been consistent with it.

We started using a few at around 6 months, but were never consistent with them. Probably around 10 months, he'd recognize and respond to some (like I'd ask him if he wanted "out" of his high chair or something and he would get excited and reach for me). Then, maybe a little after his first birthday, he started doing "hungry". Since then, I try to be more consistent and he's been able to pick them up if I take a few minutes to work with him on it. I'll do it several times, saying the word and making the sign, then if I can, I'll show him how to do it with his hands a few times. Sometimes I don't think he's gotten it, but then a couple of days later I'll say a word and he'll do the sign. He surprised me with "baby" the other day. I worked with him one night on it and didn't think he got it, but he did.
