More jewelry work.

Boxes should be arriving early next week so that I can start listing stuff. Not that I actually think I would have sold anything this fast. But, it's kind of like writing a check "knowing" that a deposit was going to go through to cover it before the check made it through. There's that chance that you're wrong. I want these pieces to go out in ( Read more... )

thanks very much! I've been really enjoying it lately. such great therapy! ;]

I talked last night with a guy at great length about casting and precious metals. He works in the pawn shop business and buys jewelry to melt basically. But he knows how to cast and all that good stuff too. But as he put it, he's not "artsy fartsy" and struggles with the design aspects of it. I'm hoping to be able to work with him some and abosorb some of his knowledge and 19 years of experience. Especially now that I've been studying the butterfly crown again (got another research page in the works).

Yeah, it just clicked for me when we started talking too. He's basically on the opposite end of things as I am. buy gold and diamonds from people who need money (says he gets a lot of divorcees), then sells it to a refinery to melt it down, and they in turn probably sell it as casting pebbles to jewelry makers and the circle is completed ;]

He, however (and I'm not sure how common this is in the pawn industry) went to a gemology institute and has 19 years of experience in the precious metal industry (as far as investing/selling goes). He's probably got a better understanding of the jewelry industry as a whole than most pawn shop owners will.

Interesting little factoid he gave me, said that you can pretty much count on gold prices rising at roughly the same rate as oil. Said there's never been a direct corolation between the two in history, but it's just always been that way.

Hey Mel! Very pretty jewelry! Love your Delphine, don't blame you for keeping it! ;) For some reason, I'm unable to view the Gaia jewel...

Thanks!

are you seeing folders when you go to Gaia Jewel? If so, the pics of each one are in the folders (I broke them up since the list of pics grew so much, and planning for future pieces to go up there). Let me know if you still can't get to them and I'll check on it further.
