Printing a list of files names?
Jan 05, 2010 19:11
There must be an easier way to list all the files on my backup DVDs than typing them in by hand.
What would that be?

Go to the command prompt. Go to My Documents or Desktop (cd for change directory)
Then type "dir" plus the path to the files you want >filenames.txt (or whatever else you want to call it.)
So if you have your DVD in the D: drive, and it is called "Backup1" or something, you would probably type dir D:\Backup1>Backup1files.txt
Then you would have a text file with the names on that directory.
I think that's how it used to go. I am sure at some point Vista or Win 7 made it easier.
You might also be able to copy all the title

get a barcode reader program, hook up your webcam and find a retail list of DVD encoding.
....granted thats more complicated than typing

There are ways to do it from the command line. There are also literally HUNDREDS of free backup cataloging programs out there which will prompt you to feed in your DVDs, figure out whats on them, and make a catalog you can then print.
