RIP Roger Ebert

I'm not much of a movie person, but I am a language person. This is awesome that Roger could use augmentative-alternative communication to talk after cancer caused him to lose his voice. Helping people who've lost their voice -- or any aspect of their speech or communication, for that matter -- is what my career is all about. *happy squee ( Read more... )

That's super cool. Haha "They said I talked too much, and now I still can" :) aww. I hope that he got lots of hugs before he passed away. I send him one now.

I was looking for the embed-code for this video but I can't figure it out. I saw the full episode of this on OWN: Trouble Next Door a little while ago and the video you posted here reminded me of it: http://www.oprah.com/own-troublenextdoor/blogs/Videos-Fighting-for-my-Family

I just think it's great that you can see how bright both Roger was and Sammie is with the assistance of this communication tool. It's really amazing and it makes me happy that there are these tools to improve/ maintain quality of life.

Sammie is cool! She uses a Dynavox! I've had patients who used that. It's such a cool device. :)

Tools like communication devices and also other modifications for mobility, motor, and daily functioning are so so cool! You should see the neat kids of cups and utensils for eating! There's all sorts! It's so cool because sometimes all people need is the right tool - and then they can function as before. It increases quality of life tremendously! :)
