Equivocation

Bill Cain is not Marc Norman or Tom Stoppard. He's not Arthur Miller either, and I'm pretty sure the problem with Equivocation is that he wants to be all of them.

The Seattle Rep production of Equivocation is the same one that premiered at Oregon Shakespeare Festival, though apparently with some cuts and rewrites. That's ( Read more... )

I'm glad to have your perspective. I still want to find a way to see this play, given the two widely divergent opinions I've now heard about it. Fascinating stuff.

No, by all means, if you can see it, do. Like I said, I had a good time. I kept gritting my teeth and stopping myself from objecting to things they said, but that's at least as much the history training as anything else. (When Cecil says, "You're the only major writer whose existence will be a matter of debate", I rolled my eyes, leaned over to Jennifer, and whispered, "Homer?" Stuff like that.) I think it's a neat show, and they do some wonderful stuff. I'd be curious to hear what you think.
