"Qu'Appelle got its name from a First Nations' legend:
A young warrior, while paddling his canoe across Katepwa Lake, heard a voice call his name. The warrior shouted, "who calls?" - which translates into "qu'appelle" in French - but received no answer. After hurrying home, he learned that his beloved had died and called his name with her last breath. Desolate at the news, he went back to the place where he last heard her voice and drowned himself. Legend has it that their voices can still be heard in the rustling wind."
