Good Writing

I like Dr. Who. I think the writing is smart. I think the current writers do a good job of remembering what's cool about The Doctor and steering clear of the things that could make him insufferable. (e.g walking the fine line between "been there done that" and the childlike wonder that has kept him going all these years, letting him be smart ( Read more... )

you've trained me too well: you put an asterisk after "season 3" so i was expecting a footnote!

tho i must quibble with you anyway: the season with donna was actually four, not three. three was the one with martha.

HOWEVER, your point! yes! doctor who is usually FULL of exactly this wonderful thing, and i admire it too. which is why i found the bit with the hand in the jar to be...well...ham-handed. it had the neon sign.

I tend to write stuff that gets the "I didn't get it" response. I figure there's a bit of craft I fail at utterly...it'd be the bit that allows it to be clear enough for someone reading a slush pile to get it while not making it so damn over-explained that it comes off like I'm talking down to a five-year-old.

I do admire those who have that together. :>

It's hard to tell if it's you or the audience. The reviewer for The Independent totally panned Moon and Let the Right One In, both of which are elegant little movies where you learn everything you need to know but are expected to put the pieces together yourself.
