Nathan's SURVIVAL STRATEGY for the Summer 2011 anime season

I'm going to watch Kamisama no Memochou and possibly Usagi Drop at some point, but these are the shows I'm following as they air right now.

Hanasaku Iroha

This is probably my favourite show of the year so far since Madoka Magica finished up. The past six or so episodes have been especially good--for a while the show was kind of aimlessly trying out

I have watched the first episode of Usagi Drop. It was pretty good, though I will reserve judgement until I have seen moar. Also, this exchange may have just happened at my house:

Me: I am amused at how many fanfics ignore the timestamp in order to have Higurashi crossovers.
Husband: Yeah, at least Kyon: Big Damn Hero got it right.
Me: Eh, it's not like the writers paid much attention to it either. No one had eighties hair.
Husband: Did they even have eighties hair in Japan? Or eighties anime hair?
Me: Bubblegum Crisis!
Husband: True. They should have done Higurashi eighties anime-style.
Me: Would you have finished watching it if they had?
Husband: .... maybe?

(The husband has only seen one episode, but I talked about it enough that he is pretty well spoilered.)

Eighties-style Higurashi would have been...oh man I don't even know. If it was anything like Bubblegum Crisis then I know THAT would have been awesome.

And...is...is it wrong that I want to write a 2011!Higurashi crossover just for the hell of it but where Rika is forty years old and a hot, confident, respected anthropologist/religious historian (and still living with Satoko and Hanyuu)? Is that so wrong?

That is AWESOME. DO IT. (Amusingly, the fanfic that prompted the conversation turned out to have been set in 1983 after all, just by way of the other anime's cast accidentally time-travelling.)

I recommend checking out No. 6 if you haven't! I thought it was going to be just another excuse to have boys act slashy w/each other amidst a crappy almost non-existent plot, but checked it out since it might be fun anyway... And it's actually been REALLY AWESOME so far? Idk. It's really different. And while there are no lady main characters, the secondary female characters have so far been really interesting.

(Oh, and it turns out it's in the Noitamina time slot. If I'd known that to start with, I'd have had higher expectations...)
