Serenity was within him, despite the fact it was the big day. Junho’s fingers were touching the cold glass and he heard a rather strong wind outside, howling and disrupting the usually calm November air. His lips turned into a smirk when he thought about those past few days after the lightning incident. Even if he didn’t voice it out to Wooyoung, this odd “postponing” of their relationship development was just for the better for both of them. Junho didn’t want to be a burden and be burdened himself. Keeping everything on halt was just simply convenient and helped Wooyoung to stay professional. Also, it was a mean to keep Junho from thinking about things that might ruin his serenity.

Being alone like this in the hospital room, listening to the wind was what he needed. His family and Chansung protested at first as Junho had asked them to stay at home and refrain from bringing him to the hospital. They insisted to be with him as this might be the day when Junho gets back the so desired vision, however, Junho was too stuborn and in the end his objections were accepted. Junho didn‘t want to talk to anyone, he didn‘t want his room to be full of people, he didn‘t need any attention at all. He just wished the surgery would come sooner.

His ears moved up quickly as he heard the door being opened and closed, a familiar cologne reached his senses. Junho‘s fingers slided down the window and touched the sill as two arms wrapped around his waist and a sharp chin was placed on his shoulder, covered by hospital robe. „How are you feeling?“ Wooyoung asked, holding Junho tighter.

"Calm."

"Really? I thought you‘d be very excited or afraid at least.“ He chuckled, pulling away and standing beside Junho.

"I just don‘t want any disappointments, so I‘m trying to control my feelings. It‘s not easy, but living in the darkness has taught me a few things. Control is one of them.“ Junho licked his dry lips, the feeling of serenity being slightly disrupted by Wooyoung‘s presence.

"Control is for boring lads, you‘re someone, who‘s meant to be exciting and you‘ll get that back, I promise.“ Wooyoung squeezed his shoulder, shaking Junho from his frozen state. "You‘re scared shitless, don‘t be afraid to talk about it. At least to me.“

“I hope there’s no storm coming over, because it’d suck if you collapsed during the surgery.” Junho smirked.

“Yeah, well, maybe I’d fight my fear this time. I won’t fail this one, so prepare and wait for the nurse to get you in a few minutes. I need to prepare.” Wooyoung turned around when Junho’s hand skilfully caught his and made him stop.

“I trust you.”

Wooyoung smiled weakly, pulled Junho close and planted a quick kiss on his lips. “See you after the surgery, guinea pig.”

Junho shook his head and smiled faintly as the door closed. Wooyoung took all of his serenity with one fast move and left him with sweaty palms. Junho clasped his teeth tight as he felt the worries kicking in.

It was just an experimental surgery after all.

Everything felt like a dark dream, the dizziness was making his head spin even with eyes closed and Junho couldn’t really understand what was happening to him as he heard random noises, people talking something about bringing him to another room. Junho opened his mouth and tried to speak but no sounds came out. He felt like a fish, which was left in a dessert for the rest of his life with a curse of immortality. Just to lie there helplessly.

At some point he felt his body being transferred onto another bed and this time the conversation became clearer as he realised he was being brought to the special treatment room, which meant the surgery was definitely over. He couldn’t feel anything, his face was numb for some reason and he couldn’t even tell whether he still he had his eyeballs or not. Junho wanted to touch his head, but his arms were limp and lifeless, drugs still active in his veins.

This long dream was confusing, Junho lost his focus again as he has been zoning out constantly, falling asleep for a few moments and waking up quickly just to fall asleep again. Junho lost all strength to fight the dizziness and he gave in, letting the last drops of drugs bring him back to sleep. He had no sense of what was happening to him.

“So, he called me yesterday and said we should go out sometime.” A female voice said.

“Really? Wow, but isn’t he an asshole for cheating on his girlfriend?” Another familiar one joined.

“Well, she’s ugly, so it’s her fault.” She sneered and Junho frowned, waking up from his sleep to hear this weird conversation.

“Aren’t you too harsh, huh?” Junho spoke, the dryness in his throat making his voice come out like menacing low growl.

“Ah!” She squealed. “I’ll get the doctor! Can you give him water, Sohee?”

“Sure.” She laughed and the other nurse rushed out. “She loves herself too much, that girl. Anyway, how are you feeling?”

“I don’t know...” Junho touched his head and felt bandages wrapped around it. “How long have I been asleep?”

“The surgery took around 6 hours, so they finished it late. We gave you some more medicine to sleep and right now it’s...” She checked her watch. “...almost 9AM. Take this.” Sohee gave him a cup of water and Junho devoured the liquid with pleasure, his throat feeling refreshed instantly. “The Doctor should be here soon, he came in very early to check on you.”

Junho gave the empty glass to Sohee as a pair of feet entered the room.

“Sohee, you can leave us.”

“Okay!” She chirped and left the room.

Wooyoung made his way to Junho’s bed and sat down on the edge, looking directly into Junho’s face as almost half of it was hidden beneath the bandage. “How are you feeling?”

“Good, I guess. I’m not dizzy anymore, my head is okay though there’s weird tingling in my eyes. How did the surgery go?”

“It went well, though a bunch of professors were watching me and my assistants as we worked on your eyes. It seems like everything should be fine, so now we’re waiting for the results, which will be revealed in a few days.”

“Few days?” Junho bit on his lip. He knew it’d take some time, but he felt very anxious now, a mix of emotions seeping through his cells.

“Yes. I’m planning to remove the bandages in 4 days. Your eyes needs the absolute protection as the cells have to connect and begin communicate with each other.” Wooyoung touched Junho’s hand, squeezing it lightly as encouragement. “Don’t touch your eyes, don’t rub them, don’t do anything. It’s essential for you to remember this if you don’t want to damage this sensitive body part of yours. I’m the only one, who can do something to your eyes, so keep your bandages on at all times. We’ll discharge you today, because you’re feeling fine and there’s no need to keep you in here. If you feel something bad or odd, just call me, okay?”

“Sure.” Junho nodded.

“By the way, your parents are waiting for you.”

“Uh...”

“Stop being a prick, they care about you. And I told them to take care of you, so you can start hating me now.”

“Asshole.” Junho punched Wooyoung in his chest and heard him laughing as he obviously liked doing things Junho didn’t approve of. “Wooyoung...”

“Yeah?”

“Is someone watching us now?”

“What, are you trying to be a psychic? No, unless your mother can see right through walls.”

Junho smirked and grabbed Wooyoung by his collar, finding his lips skilfully as if he could see everything. Wooyoung got the obvious hint and placed his hands on Junho’s thighs, leaning in into the rough kiss, devouring Junho’s lips in return.

Junho’s fingers cupped the doctor’s face, slowing the kiss as this intimacy threatened Junho to lose his focus on the outer world. He also didn’t have any intentions of leaving the hospital with a painful erection as he knew his parents would be watching him 24/7 till the bandage is off. Wooyoung’s fingers got dangerously close to Junho’s crotch and he pulled away, stopping the older male’s hands from further actions.

“Why?..” Wooyoung whined.

“Besides the bandages, do you also want to explain to my parents why I got hard after your visitation?” Junho smirked.

“It could be a side effect...”

Junho slapped Wooyoung’s shoulder forcefully, not impressed by his innuendos. He knew Wooyoung was just joking, but behind every joke was a glint of true feelings. The settlement was still on, even though it was harder to keep it with each touch as they had many chances to be alone. Junho just wanted to remove the bandages faster and see the world and colours once more. He wished to experience everything with his eyes open wide.

“Be careful and don’t touch your eyes and bandages. See you in 4 days.” Wooyoung stood up. “And be nice to your parents.”

“Oh just shut up.” Junho could hear the familiar voices as Wooyoung opened the door and he silently wished these 4 days would pass faster.

Hard wasn’t the right word. Junho was suffocating as he couldn’t contain himself, the bandages becoming his biggest enemy. Staying at his parents’ place was also annoying. They always watched him, even the slightest movement of his hand towards the bandages were met with his mother’s yelps. Joo was his saviour though, whenever she’d come back from her job, she’d talk to him till very late and that helped Junho to fall asleep.

He wished he had a medical reason to call Wooyoung, but there wasn’t any, as his eyes felt perfectly fine and the occasional tingling was normal as Wooyoung had told him the first night Junho was discharged. Chansung couldn’t see Junho that often, he was competing somewhere in Japan. Junho really needed his best friend, but phone calls where the only option. Knowing how tough Chansung’s schedule must’ve been, Junho didn’t bother him and just walked from corner to corner, waiting for the magical 4th day.

And when it finally came, Junho was the first one to get up and drag his parents from their beds. The amount of energy he had was something his parents haven’t seen for the past few months and they ignored the shower just to bring Junho to the hospital before he went completely crazy.

They were brought to one of the hospital rooms and they’ve been waiting for what it seemed to be 5 billion years to Junho. His legs were hanging as he was sitting on the edge of the bed, waiting for Wooyoung and a bunch of other doctors to witness the result of this experimental surgery. Junho’s fingers were itching like never before. These bandages had to be removed NOW.

“Hello everyone!” Wooyoung spoke, a couple more feet shuffling behind him as they entered the room and the door was shut tight.

“Hey.” Junho whispered.

“How are you?”

“Nervous.” Junho didn’t lie. His fingers were dug deep into his thighs.

“Just calm down, Junho. Sohee, close the curtains.” Wooyoung ordered and he stood in front of Junho. “Okay, now listen. After I remove it, don’t open your eyes quickly. I’ll clean them and after that open your eyes slowly as this room isn’t completely dark and your eyes are very sensitive right now. Got it?”

“Yes.”

“Okay. Let’s do it.” Wooyoung took the scissors and cut off the bandage, leaving Junho with two big pieces of bandages that covered his eyes. His fingers worked carefully and Junho felt his steady breathing caressing his face. Wooyoung removed the two pieces and something wet touched his eyelids, making them feel refreshed as Wooyoung cleaned them with extreme care. Junho could hear the other doctors whispering among themselves, anticipating for the result. “Okay, now open your eyes slowly.”

Junho could swear he heard how everyone stopped breathing and he realised this moment was something he has been waiting for so long. But he wasn’t the only one; Wooyoung was probably even more nervous as his experimental surgery was one of the most important things in his career and life as well. Junho didn’t want to disappoint both of them.

His eyelids fluttered, trying to open up, but it wasn’t easy as his eyes felt like they were glued. Junho exhaled, composing himself once more and he felt his eyelids separate. Now his eyelids were fluttering even more, tears streaming down his face immediately and his hand moving in front of his face to protect himself from whatever might be damaging his vision.

Junho felt more tears falling down his face, but he couldn’t stop it. His eyes were just too sensitive. “Junho, what do you see?” Wooyoung’s voice was silent as he was a bit afraid of the answer, but Junho’s eyelids kept on fluttering and everyone couldn’t breathe waiting for his answer.

“Wait...” Junho spoke. “Just wait.” He looked down and closed his eyes, composing himself once again and this time when he opened his eyes, Junho looked around frowning.

“Junho?..”

Junho looked into Wooyoung’s direction and the latter dreaded the answer. Junho wasn’t looking straight into his eyes.

“Shadows and light. I can differentiate them.”

Wooyoung exhaled like he has never exhaled before.
