Vet Recommendation.

People often ask for them, so after this morning I have one to give.

Living in the sorta Oakliegh-Clayton area has quite a bit for choice with regards to Vet's, with most of them being shit. Trying to find one that isn't "OH JESUS YOU FILTHY SWINE, HURRY UP AND NEUTER YOUR PET" the second you walk in the door, and then "YOU SHOULD REALLY BUY SOME  ( Read more... )

Dumb question, but what exactly is the issue with a vet suggesting you neuter your dog?

From the rest of the post I get the feeling the poster is actually intending to breed in the future - 6 months for instance - but doesn't want pups now.

This. Unless it is a pedigree that you are intending to show/breed why wouldn't you?

wow. genius. good work on helping to ensure that more dogs in shelters will be put to sleep each year.

as opposed to the homeless and starving people?

Alternatively it could be that I plan on furthering the breed.

Or that responsible registered breeders who test of genetic defects and hereditary problems with selective sales of their pups are certainly a cut above ma and pa bogan letting Sparky fuck the neighbourhood, finding out its a girl - by virtue of it being pregnant - then dumping lol-mongrels at the RSPCA.

Not sure if you know this or not, but you can get contraceptive implant for future-mummy dog. Might save you a wholelottaworry.

We looked into this (mostly the injection for the boy) and couldn't find any evidence of them breeding afterwards. Plenty of documents showing the the reproductive cycle returning to normal on paper though.

Any info you have would be most welcome :)

not used it myself (ugh, I mean on my pets). However, the situation was a bit different to yours. We had one boy, desexed and our breeder had a girl he thought he may want to breed with in future but wanted her to have a home with a family, so he sent her to live with us. We looked into it as an option for stopping her cycle because it made her crackers and also upset because she didn't know why she was crackers. In the end, our breeder decided not to use her so she was spayed.

Both our vet and breeder seemed happy with the proposition of the implant though.

Indeed, we've already decided that if we can't breed in 6 months (her next cycle) then she will be spayed shortly before its due to hit.

We've just got to get through the breed specific testing and ANKC registration before then. Again, if anything fails, she will be desexed.
