it can eat things bigger than itself.

...but it only grows up to ten inches.

Small, but fierce. I like it.

Not cool I thought I was at wtf_nature first D:

I love these rare marine creatures, only I wouldn't want to meet them, you know. ...Though the yeti crab looks pretty stylish. But the cuttlefish stole my heart, being all rainbow-y:

omg I love the cuttlefish. (actually, all cuttlefishes. for mollusks, they seem oddly cuddly.)

Did you ever read the Moomimvalley books as a kid? because that's what that picture reminds me of.

weird sea fauna is fabulous.

I CAN'T UNSEE THAT, YOU KNOW.

Seriously, that first fish is going to haunt my dreams. what's wrong with its stomach!? But the second thing is kind of cute, its like a monkey and a crab had a baby!

SORRY.

I realize it does have kind of trauma-inducing body structure, but it's not terribly large irl. plus, it's called the Black Swallower. and that is hardcore awesome.

I find myself kind of wanting to hug the yeti crab. <3

Lol, Black Swallower, that IS epic. When you say 'not terribly large,' we're talking hand-sized or arm-sized? Finger sized? And they don't hunt in swarms, do they?

(also: SPN tonight, squee!)

Ten inches maximum, but it can swallow things with up to ten times its body mass. If I knew how to embed pictures in comments, I would, because I have one.
...that said, it's classified as harmless to humans. so. no worries.

OMG SPN TONIGHT
I thought that episode was excellent. ZOMBIES. and lots more.
(I kind of really want Bobby to turn out to be God...)
just like this.
also, I was pleased to see that Dean managed to regain a certain amount of backbone for this, though Sam-character time remains as lacking as ever.
