Love it!! I have to research details, even if I don't use them. When I got into Primeval I acquired well over a metre of shelf space on dinosaur books, and now I'm busily acquiring French history for Musketeers fic.
I'm not keen on badly researched fic at all, and wrong things in areas I know about stand out like a sore thumb, and good research is quite the opposite!
In other news, my block is broken and I'm writing again! WOOT!!!!
I try to look up things that I don't know and that are easy to look up, like distances or administrative things (like how to apply for a marriage license
( ... )
But sometimes details are just filler and my focus in a story is on something else entirely.
It's good to get the facts right but important to remember this. I loved the movie The Hunt for Red October. I borrowed the book from the library expecting to find out more about the characters an the situation.
What I got was a dense tomb of facts that completely distracted me from the story I wanted to read more about.
Sometimes research can be fun, when it's something suitably small or easy to find :) Like Brooklyn Bridge Park :D I have a scene there, and it was fun looking at the pictures, and reading a bit about the park and the bridge itself. Not that I'm going to be overly specific, but still.
Less fun was trying to figure out the timeframe of events, or what season it was so I wouldn't mess up the weather too badly. Apparently the new Marvel movies happen in modern times, and if I got it right around the time they came out??? I'm still not sure if I got things right, but I'm just too tired to care about that -_- There are so much more important things to think about as far as the story is concerned...
In other words, still writing, still struggling, but making progress!
Oh, dear, where did March go???!! I still haven't been able to locate the right memory stick, but at least I'm looking :p (It's been a very draining month, my mother is not doing very well
