This is revolting
It pains me to see that this is happening under the leadership of Dr. Manmohan singh - one of the few educated "professionals" who has lived his entire life with "meritocracy"
No logic or explaination given out, as to why reservations.
Not even a clear characterisation of the problem that they are trying to solve.
No proof of success of earlier reservations. There is a lof of counter examples which state that reservations have not worked.
from the above interview - I quote -
For example, a study done by the IITs themselves shows that 50 per cent of the IIT seats for the SCs and STs remain vacant and for the remaining 50 per cent, 25 per cent are the candidates, who even after six years fail to get their degrees. So, clearly, in their case, reservations are not working.
Its like shifting the bottleneck from the Entrance exam to the semester exams.
Unless they plan to have reservations in semester exams as well .. I dont see how this will work in the first place.
On another note .. I just got an IM from a friend saying -
Subhash Srivastav an AIIMS student died at 6:44 pm on 20/05/2006, because of hunger strike protesting against reservation. Media is not allowed to cover it. Please pass this to all and help not to let down his sacrifice
I have no idea if the above is correct .. if someone can verify this .. post blogs .. upload videos .. and generate awareness. It would help people like me to get behind the peop[le & try & muster support & at least create awareness.
Not this it helps always eg. I dont know what came off the IIPM vs bloggers battle .. but I still see fullpage IIPM ads in the papers.
