Life can suck in various ways. Sure, you can be fixated on how one aspect of your life is currently terrible, but just wait - there are OTHER ways your life can also be miserable. Welp. Find a nice hotel, order take-out, put your feet up, and keep your receipts for an insurance claim. Might as well enjoy the ride.

Fortunately, the order was lifted and I was able to come home at 9 pm. Guess I should be thankful that the power is in overhead lines, or they would surely sever those next.

My mother had all kinds of old sayings like that. She actually wrote them down for me on index cards once, in German and with the English translations.

I think I wrote a post about it at one point. Some of my all time favorites are:
"He who has choice has torment."
"Stupidity and pride grow out of the same wood."

And, because the German is so intrinsic to the composition:
"Mitgegangen, mitgefangen, mitgehangen." ---->
(You) went with them, got caught with them, and (so) got hung with them.
