The Big Thaw

Thursday morning I went to renew my vehicle registration and get a new license as soon as the place opened up.   As is invariably the case, even though I arrived ten minutes early there were three people who had just showed up ahead of me, and they started walking up to the front door as soon as I parked my car.   I can never time these things ( Read more... )

As a fellow Ohioan, I didn't know you could get 5 years for the license. Weirdly enough I need glasses to drive and see tv. For the last 10 years, they have put on my license that I need glasses and then this year they took off the restriction. I didn't understand. Sucks that the glasses came in after the appointment but that's how it goes haha. I was the DMV one time and a lady and her husband came in to renew their licenses. They were married for 60 years and were in their 90's. She couldn't even understand what was happening and all they did was give her the vision test. I wish we could test more instead of the vision thing. haha.

right, cognitive test and especially reaction-time tests would be nice.

There was a big push maybe 12 -15 years ago to make people at a certain age, maybe it was 80 or 85, relinquish their licenses, or at least be forced to take the whole original driving test again to demonstrate they were still capable, but taking on the elderly, who are a strong political bloc and prickly about their privileges and rights, proved too much to overcome. I could be wrong, but I don't think anything came of it.

I'll read the rest of this later, but TWO HUNDRED FORTY DOLLARS for a driver's license? ??!! What the heck?

That was the total, so it would have included the $61.42 for the vehicle registration also.

Still. In VA, mine is good for almost 8 years and it cost less than $50, and it was even the RealID version.

That's still an awful lot of money. How is it that Ohio charges way more than New York, where every fee already seems way too high to me?
