LOVED IT
I find myself not inclined to read a lot of panic fics recently, unless they have AWESOME AU IDEAS LIKE THIS ONE DID. Really cool twist to an apocalypse type thing, mutated animals instead of zombies. It adds a bit of scariness too because- no fresh meat D: Pretty clever and put together really well for being a oneshot with an AU like this.

A sequel maybe would be awesome.

YAY! Glad my AU idea was AWESOME. Yeah, I really felt the zombie thing was overdone, especially since I recently watched Resident Evil: Extinction although I did sort of reference that movie, haha.

I have so many plot bunnies in my head for a sequel, ohmygod.

It is, but at the same time it isn't? Like idk personally, I've had this one zombie au working itself out in my mind for weeks, because... I love zombie aus, but I want mine to not be like, you know, every other zombie au ever. It's kind of like highschool aus (though not as popular) in that they often follow the same track, you know? I applaud you, though.
