Looking at going back to school

I'm looking at picking up an AAS in Accounting from a community college down here. The biggest challenge right now is financial. It doesn't really matter that I've missed the deadline for the fall semester because there's no way I can afford it now. So I have four months to figure out how to pay for it ( Read more... )

I haven't much to add, just "Bravo!" to you.

You should also be able to get out of a number of those annoying English classes, PE classes, and a number of electives. If I recall correctly, you have an Associates in CS

It may be a little early, but look around for some Tax places and see if any are hiring. They usually start hiring to train for next year's tax season in October/November, I think. You might be able to double-up on the training.

It's called the FAFSA - you need to fill one out. Hopefully it will get you a Pell grant, at the very least.

Also, talk to the Financial Aid person at the school of your choice for other options. Though they'll ask you if you've filled out your FAFSA first. And yes, if you apply in time, you could probably get aid for Spring semester.

In American culture, employment is a large base of our self esteem. It is also a basis on how others view us. Those who work a 40 hour week are seen differently from a person who works part time. Corporate work is different from retail work, etc... Yes, its very much a caste system. Right or wrong.

But all that aside, self-esteem comes from the inside -- how much you value yourself. I'm not talking narcicism. But it's like the adage that you can't love someone else if you don't love yourself first. No one else can respect you if you don't respect yourself.

Thanks for the advice. :) It really is about your last sentence. I'm coming to this somewhat late in life, but better late than never.
