I bought myself an Exercise bike a few days ago, and have been gradually getting myself used to it. I have to take it slow and steady in order to not upset the hip, but I've been hopping on a few times a day, except for yesterday when I gave it a rest and strolled around the garden instead

I haven't written either and I can't decide if I care or not myself and I don't even own an excercise bike or a sexy partner to distract me.
Hm!
This can't be good. And yet...I'm not overly worried.

That's really cool that you have got an exercise bike. Sheesh! You have fibro and spondylitis?
That's a good aim - change n body shape. I have just found that my summer dresses are a bit tight. Arrgh!

It means I can concentrate on a writing career though, so it's not all bad. :)

I do commiserate with you on your spondylitis, as my son-in-law has ankylosing spondylitis. Do you have to concentrate on sitting up straight at your computer?

Wikipedia has the following description: Spondyloarthropathies are inflammatory joint diseases associated with the MHC class I molecule HLA-B27. The term seronegative spondylarthropathy is used by medical practitioners because this set of conditions may mimic rheumatoid diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, but serological (blood) tests are typically negative for rheumatoid factor (RhF).
I guess my condition comes closest to Rheumatoid Arthritis, because that was what they kept testing me for initially.
Add Fibromyalgia to the mix and people wonder why I am mobile at all. As do I, some days. :)

It should only be disappointing if what's going up is the amount of fat you're carrying. :) We have one of those electro-zap scales that gives you your body fat percentage along with your total weight, so you can figure out how much actual fat you're carrying and watch how that goes up and down. I don't actually weigh all that much less in total than I did when I started walking, but my total body fat has gone down, especially since my husband got me a couple of hand weights.
Look at it this way -- muscle burns calories just by existing, even when you're asleep. So putting on extra muscle helps you burn the fat faster. More muscle is good, even if the gain in muscle outpaces the loss in fat for a while.
Hang in there, hon. [hugz]
