Registering a Domain

I can't do it right now but I'm thinking about the future. How does one register a domain? The one I want is currently available and hopefully it will remain available. I know that one can do it through Yahoo but essentially it's like giving them your Domain name and them allowing you to use it. I got my dad's business a domain that way but wish to ( Read more... )

You have to go through a Registrar. GoDaddy, etc...

I'd suggest Joker.com. They're German, but they've always been great to deal with and they're *cheap*. (Don't worry about the cheap part...you still get the domain name registered and all, and you get do have a bunch of tools online to help administer everything that needs to be administered...)

Once you have the domain name, though, you need a host...and that's something else entirely. Some hosts will offer to register a domain name for you, basically automating that process...but the downside is that often (a) they'll put themselves down as contacts for the domain and/or (b) it'll just be more expensive anyway.

Thanks! I checked out Joker and they're much better than the sites I've been perusing and dirt cheap. I decided to go ahead with it. There'll be nothing there for awhile but I wanted to secure the domain name before someone else thought of it. It seems kind of obvious and someone is bound to snatch it. So say hello to the still not quite existent http://www.meg-music.com ;-)

Yeah, they're a lot better than the American sites, mostly because they don't pull tricks like Network Solutions or GoDaddy that wind up costing you a lot more in the long run.

They give the exact same service for much, much less.
