Today's been chocked full of extreme amounts of stress.

My suggestion would be to email him the link and cc your Dean, re-requesting the make up. Explain you understand that you need a documented emergency and that you hope this obit will suffice. I suspect having the link as well as seeing the dean's email address attached will likely hasten the process of his reconsidering your request.
