I've had to turn down FOUR weddings on one day this month. Mostly because I'm working that day, but also because the NEXT day I have to be down in Parker CO for Dressage Championships to shoot, and I'm staying down there the entire weekend, and I don't want my husband to completely lose his crap. Would the extra money be good? ABSOLUTELY. Do I need ( Read more... )

That Auga Fresca looks amazing! I enjoyed The Curious Incident pretty well. I read a review of it by an autistic person who said it was not an accurate portrayal of an autistic mind, and the author rebutted by saying that he was trying to communicate the experience in a way that a typical mind would understand, so of course it wouldn't translate correctly to a person who was autistic. Interesting to think about, at least.

if you've ever seen/heard Temple Grandin (she's local here to CSU, but I think other people have heard of her) talk, it's INTERESTING. She has tried to communicate how her mind works, and they just made a movie about her (it's on Netflix, I think). I have an interest in it, because my mom is a Special Ed/Speech Language Therapist teacher... I appreciate that he was trying to point out how someone might think... but I can understand that it's not probably how an autistic person experiences it. If you have any interest, Temple is an interesting real-world example of a brilliant person who thinks VERY differently, who has tried to communicate how she sees the world.

Yes, she's amazing! I've read parts of her books online, and the movie with Claire Danes was really well done. Also Erroll Morris interviews her in his series First Person - I love everything he does.

I actually just watched The Horse Boy (also streaming on Netflix), which was an interesting concept, but a really poorly done documentary in my opinion (also, bad horsemanship - yikes!). But I guess worth a watch if you want to continue the autism theme... Anyway, Temple Grandin is interviewed in it.

I wonder what she thinks of Haddon's book?
