DOCTOR WHO

Apr 29, 2010 21:29

Um...yes, I'll repeat that...Doctor Who.

As in "I watched new!Who today and it didn't have Nine or Ten in it!".

Hello bbs! I am here to make a post because I have watched some newer Who! I haven't actually watched any DW since "Journey's End". Seriously.

Watched The Eleventh Hour and The Beast Below... )

OMG, I HAVEN'T EITHER. I have been debating all week if I should just start catching up. Actually, I was just procrastinating about watching when I stopped by LJ and read this. Now I will go watch hehe. I just don't want to see the end of Ten :(

I didn't even watch any of the specials! (Although, I think it's clear our feelings on him differ quite a bit :D)

Wonder if the transition would be easier on you if you didn't watch his last special yet?

IDK. I'm about to watch the specials cause I won't stand it if I don't, but maybe it will be good to just go from the end to the start of the next. I was mad when Nine turned into Ten, but I watched seasons 1 and 2 back to back and it turned out ok.

Can't tell you anything about River and the Doctor (as I haven't gotten there yet), but yeah, I really really like Amelia.

I've seen some intensity like Nine in Eleven and I've definitely seen some manic flashes like Ten in Eleven, but not as shrill. He's really developing the role into something of his own - but I don't think he's quite there yet. Hopefully that speeds up though because I'm a little wary.

And wow, WAY TOO SOON to say BEST DOCTAH or BEST SERIES. As you know :D, it'll take a hell of a lot to top my S1 love, and that's not happening yet. But there is great promise in this series...you know, two episodes, lol

I let DT/Ten fool me for too long when there were definite things that turned me off since the beginning of his run. THIS! I always felt a bit like a sad Nine fangirl to take so long warming up to the Tenth Doctor, so I tried really hard to keep finding moments in a new episode where I could say he was starting to grow on me. But honestly it was always a struggle and, after watching Matt Smith, I like him so much more already. It's a really interesting contrast compared to how long DT took to find his feet in season 2 ( ... )

See, and I never thought it was the Nine fan in me that made me feel like this. Even though I was defensive over it, I felt fine with the idea that Nine was gone and here was Ten. But...I dunno *shrugs*

I think what's really gonna help with Matt Smith/Eleven is the writing. While DT's acting was certainly a part of my problem, the writing was as well, because that's why DT/Ten acted that way.

But yes, even with those moments Matt looks like he's trying to be like DT/Ten, he still has a step above him because I don't think anyone could be as bad as DT was in those moments. So it could get very interesting :)

No I know what you mean, I was actually pretty positive and excited for DT after his short scene in TPOTW and again in The Xmas Invasion. But then for most of season 2 he just did not work for me at all, and with all the wank going in in fandom over people not immediately embracing DT, I did question whether it was because I was hung up on the Ninth Doctor. But Matt Smith has helped me realise that it was just DT that wasn't working for me :P

You know what really made me mad about the writing for Ten? Was RTD LYING to us about how he didn't write any discernible difference between Ten and Nine. LIES. Acting aside, there were times that what Ten was doing made me cringe and I can remember thinking "Nine would never do that", "That's not what Nine wanted", "Nine believed the opposite of that", it was ridiculous.

I have no idea what to really think of that season to be honest. I like Matt Smith. I think he's a decent doctor. I don't think I'm very hard to please since I love both Nine and Ten as well (Nine is still the best though :P). But I just don't get the hysterical love for that season. I have lots of people on my flist who didn't watch or watched but didn't care about Doctor Who before that are now squeeing about it left and right. Don't take me wrong, I think it's great, there can never be enough Who love, but I just don't see what in particular is making this season so awesome. The first one of the new series was still IMO the best in terms of quality.

I'm not sure how I feel about Amelia either. I go from loving her to being blah. I think she's totally awesome when she's giving the doctor hell, but apart from that, I'm not feeling the spark :(

I need to watch a few more episodes to really get into it, but it doesn't look like I'm gonna label this NUMBER ONE!! because even two episodes in, it didn't grip me like S1.

It actually makes me wonder, were this many people maybe in denial about how they really felt about Ten?

I'm wondering if that's my issue about Amy too. Hmmm...
