When Flian wakes up with amnesia, one prince, Garian, tells her that she’s his guest, and happily engaged to Jason, king of a nearby country. Despite the amnesia, Flian is quite certain she’d never fall for someone as serious and humorless as Jason. Jason doesn’t seem particularly interested or amused. I just finished Crown Duel and Court Duel and enjoyed them very much. I really like Mel. I definitely will read their prequel A Stranger to Command.

I'm thinking of checking out The Trouble With Kings A Posse of Princesses, too.

"While Flian lived up to the expectations I had from Smith’s other books and the romance and overall plot were quite well done, I was surprised that I actually didn’t think much of the men"
I have the same opinion regarding Mel's brother Bran or - he's just there - a supporting character.

Well, I think Bran was just supposed to be a second character. She's definitely far more interested in her heroines than her men, which is a refreshing change. I really liked a Posse of Princesses.

Heh! Also, I wrote Crown Duel (and Trouble with Kings) when I was in my early twenties, and hadn't much experience of men. And I know it shows in those stories!)

I didn't know that about Trouble With Kings. Mind you, I was mostly just paying attention to Flian and Jewel here, and Mel in Crown Duel.

Yeah, I guess. I had thought that he had a bigger role, but he didn't. I also like the spacing of the books, too.
