So, is there any other manga out there where the manga having a mini-comic detailing the mangaka’s search for information about how Japanese women in the 1860s dealt with their menstrual cycle is actually very important and a central plot point?

Good to hear about this series. I haven't kept up since they took it out of monthly serialization in Shojo Beat.

I dropped Shojo Beat after a bit. I was only enjoying half of what I paid for, so...

I subscribe to both Shojo Beat and Shonen Jump and I have definitely been feeling that way about Shonen Jump in the past year (I only read half the magazine at most since I'm not a Yuugioh GX fan or a Bleach fan... or a Bobobobobo (whatever) fan). I've subscribed to both since the first issue though so it's habit... There are a couple in Shojo Beat right now that aren't really great but they've done a pretty good job of switching out titles (though I wish they had kept Nana).
