Mm, Tarot Cafe. I think I stopped at 5, because 6 wasn't out? Either way, this series is kind of wacky, in terms of story. It confused me a lot! Then again, it's not terribly hard to confuse me. I'm kind of fond of Belus and Pamela though, so I'll end up reading it all (eventually) anyway.
I was reading it when it first came out, then Tokyopop stopped putting it out at around Vol 3, and that happened with several series I was reading atthe time, and I got huffy and got rid of them all. Naturally, they've all been picked up by someone else, or completed.
It is confusing in terms of how most manga stories are narrated, but I think it's more meant to be read all in one go (or close to it) as opposed to a chapter at a time, or months between volumes.
I ship Pamela/Belus but probably shouldn't. Esp. since a lot of my interest is seeing it bite him in the butt.
Oh, yay, somebody else reads Tarot Cafe! I don't know of anyone else who does and I've been wishing for someone to compare theories with, since I too am deeply baffled by everything that's going on. *headscratches*
I am assuming it will all make sense in the end! I hope! Really, the manhwaga's Les Bijoux was the first manga I ever picked up (I sometimes forget it was the first, not just an early one) and I figure that helps some.
Ash: “Hi, I’m a centuries old dragon who took in a little human girl whose mother was burned as a witch. After raising said girl, I seem to have selflessly loved her, and my death was probably to protect her.”
Me: “Bad Ash! No falling in love with girls you raised!”
Belus: “I found Pamela when she was broken and lost and alone and bound her to me and have been playing a game only I know all the rules to with her in the almost 800 years since.”
Me: “Yes please!”
LOL! I think this would be the same reaction as mine. And what is the second example from?
Oh! They're the two sides of the love triangle in the series. (It isn't a blatant triangle...the focus is on Pamela's history, and her independent relationships with both, not as a tringle-so far-but it's there.)
I think the reaction is because one is "raising your wife," and the other is set up for him to get bitten in the butt by his own game.
To be fair to Ash, there isn't (so far) any indication that he tried to mold Pamela into anything (he seems to have let her run wild), but at the same time, it does indicate that he had romantic feelings for her when she was about 12~, and really, nothing will change the fact that he met her when she was a traumatized young girl (her mother was burned at the stake, and she barely escaped, and was being hunted) who would have latched on to anyone as her savior. In some ways, Belus does seem to have tried to mold her into something, but he also epically failed at that, and is just fine with it.
