It begins in 1899 with a vampire detective aboard a Zeppelin, migrating to the colonies, and ends in 1903 with Tesla and Paris. I say this first and in relative isolation because there are a few people who won’t care about anything I have to say beyond that.

Oh, YUM. And I did quite like the one freebie story EBear's got online from this universe...must remember to bump this one up higher on the List of Doom (TM).

Hmm...I thought you'd read the whole thing, for some reason.

Most seem to have problems with the ending, but I think a different kind of ending would have annoyed me.

Nope, I have yet to read any of her novel-length work, tho' I have read a bunch of the online shorts. (I do at least finally have a copy of Blood and Iron sitting here waiting for me to work my way through the stacks, thanks to rachelmanija. So many books, so little time...)

Blood and Iron is a good one. I think Elaine is my favorite of her characters. After you read it and New Amsterdam, I'd be pretty interested in hearing what you think about what seems to be her take on characters with more traditional ideas of romantic love, and heroic types in general.
